Ok...

So I've recently entered the world of Leica M with a nice M6 and a 50 cron. Because of this I'm opting to sell my EOS 1v HS system.

I haven't had many bites on it, but I did get an interesting offer of an M2 for my 1v. This would give me 2 bodies and one lens, which is a little silly. Common sense says that i should sell/trade the m2 for glass/cash or just sell the EOS for $.

Given the market for both these cameras and my options, what do you think my best course of action is?

I don't know the market value of your Canon system, Chris.. but if it's about the same as the M2, you probably couldn't go wrong with the trade.. if you decide not to keep the M2 and it's in decent shape, you would be able to find a buyer for that pretty easily

I'm not sure of the values in the transaction so I'll leave the business aside.

Having a second compatible body is a real bonus when I'm out shooting. I have two CV bodies. One has colour the other BW. I can switch from one to the other when out shooting and something really needs colour or BW I merely switch lenses, put in the body cap from the second camera and keep on shooting.

Actually, a dilemma is a choice between two equally bad outcomes.

You have a problem, or a decision to make, not a dilemma.

EOS 1v cameras are selling for about $600 on eBay.

M2's are selling for several hundred dollars more, usually.

If the M2 is in excellent condition, take the M2.

Fair enough on the definition of Dilemma, though I think my word choice was coloured by the fact the I promised my gf that I would get cash for it and thereby negate some of the cost of my m6. I'm going to have some explaining to do 😀

I think you're right on taking the M2 though.

Second question then:

would you trade/sell the m2 for glass for the m6 or keep it as a second body with the the idea of getting glass for it eventually?

Keep this in mind... the EOS is only going to continue to decline in value. The M2 on the other hand should stay at a relatively stable price (if not go up in value).

yeah, like that'll happen 😉

that's what i'm worried about. 🙂

I can hear the conversation now:

"why do you have a camera you don't have a lens for?"

"uhh...I do have a lens for it, it's just on my other camera"

"then sell that one"

"I can't"

"why not"

"i'm weak"

Swimming counterstream:

A good M2 costs around 500-700 - you can get it later, this is not too good of a deal.

If you do want a 2nd classic body with your M6, the ideal is an M3.

You can get great glass for US 600. The other day a 35/1.2 sold for
this in the classifieds.

Roland.

PS: I love my M2 like anybody.

Here's the better continuation of the dialogue:

"why do you have a camera you don't have a lens for?"

"uhh...I do have a lens for it, it's just on my other camera"

"then sell that one"

"I can't"

"why not"

"there's a lens on it"

"what lens?"

"the only lens that would fit this camera, which you said i should keep."

"then take theat lens off and put it on this camera."

"i can't."

"why not?"

"because then the other one will need another lens."

"Then buy a lens for the other camera."

lol...in a a rational world. :bang:

I think I'll take it if I still can and see what all the fuss is about regarding these m2s.
