I have too many 50mm lenses. Do you too?

I just got a parcel delivery notice and I think/hope it's the CV 50mm f2.5 from David M. I have to wait until 6pm to pick it up. Then it's off to visit my parents for the weekend, including a high school football team reunion. (The older we get, the greater we were!)

LTM Mount:

1. Canon 50/1.2

Raid,

If you ever even think that you might wish to sell that "Soft as warm butter. Scary soft" Canon 50/1.2, please contact me.

Or anyone else reading this. Something faster than 1.4 would suit me just fine.

That said, the title promted me to tally my 50mm lens collection.

4 loose 50mm lenses from Canon, Nikkor & Leica from 1:3.5 to 1:1.4
1 fixed 50mm 1:3.5 Hexar
5 Zooms covering 50mm and then some from Canon, Nikon & Pentax

I wouldn't mind having one more 50 either faster than 1.4 or newer than my DR Summicron. Since that might require mass quantities of cash, I'm happy with what I have.

Wayne: You will be the first person to know if I ever sell that lens. Mine is not mint but is a user that has seen better days.

Today I mailed off a Canon 50/2.8 and a Canon 35/2.8, and I am trying to put myself in a selling mode. Which lenses should I sell next ...maybe the lenses that I am not using often. Here, the Summarit comes to mind, but I now have the matching hard to get original lens hood for it. It would be a shame to sell off the Summarit and then keep the lens hood.

Maybe I should sell the collapsible Summicron. For a vintage look, I have the Summar, so the collapsible Summicron has been side shifted for quite some time.

The Canon 50/1.2 must be used once in a while for its uniqueness at aperture 1.2. I have the original lens hood for it too.

The Canon 50/1.8 is very similar in performance to the rigid Summicron from same vintage, so why keep both? The Summicron is like a piece of art. I could never sell such a beautiful lens. It is a part o fmy M3. Both are chrome and both are mint. The Canon 50/1.8 is undervalued, so selling it would be a "loss".

My conclusion is as follows: I better wait.

It's a deal! No worries. No rush.

Cheers!

You sold your 35/2.8? I can't believe I missed that, I want one for my P.

Someone suddenly sent me an email and asked about my Canon lenses that were up for sale. I decided to let go of these two excellent lenses since I have other lenses that also do the job. Sorry you missed the 35mm lens.

For those of you that have too many 50mm and not enough M3 bodies... I'm looking for a Elmar or Canon Noct and would consider a trade/cash/purchase. Just got it back CLA'd.

For the record, I own the original version of the 50mm Lux and love it.

I have way too many Leica 50mm lenses! It has been a while since my last census, but I have at least ten! The oldest one was made in the 1930s, the latest one in the mid 1990s. As you can probably guess, I have Summars, Summitars, Elmars, and many types of Summicrons. The older ones are not used much, unless I am in the mood for a special look in B&W.

Richie,

I have had additions to my 50mm group of lenses. Brian Sweeney took the glass out of the Luxon (Paxette) lens shell and inserted it inside a J-3 shell. This is my latest 50mm acquisition. It is in many ways unique.

I miss my Summar that may have been stolen (on a Zorki-4). It had near perfect optics and gave very smooth results.

How many Summars do you have?

how do you fit "too many" and "fifty millimeter" in the same sentence,.. i don't get it...

You need to include a negative qualifier like "don't" or, a la Borat, "NOT"!
