i just might be crazy...

Funny, the R-D1 seems to generate more interest now than when it first came out!

Maybe Epson and Cosina could be convinced to start working on a R-D2?
I'd like a better digital RF, but the M8 feels too digital for my taste.

i think maybe it's connected to all the buzz about the g1 and it's ability to use m mount lenses.
i have always been interested in the rd1 but when it was new, i couldn't/wouldn't afford it and as it aged i was hesitent to buy a used camera that was discontinued. but now i don't care so much about that. i have fun with the g1 and i think the rd1 will be even more fun. and the g1 with kit lenses is still fun and produces some very nice images. and i still can use my m lenses on it.
think of the variety of focal lengths that gives a limited number of lens.
on film, on the rd1 and on the g1 my 35 is a 35, a 53 and a 70.

that is flexibilty.

and it's the rd1s model.

is it more than just a software update??

I think the only real physical difference is the way the rangefinder alignment mechanism is put together. People have reported having a hard time adjusting the rangefinder on the R-D1s, as opposed to the R-D1, if it goes out of alignment.

Also, and this is utterly minor, I've noticed that the R-D1s has a slightly more pebbled texture to the paint finish (which I like), and a more positive click to the jog dial's movement.

Otherwise, they're the same camera, mod the firmware upgrade.

He is the devil tempting me like this.

devil? not me...just offering my fellow mod an exceptional deal on a near new camera and kit lens that has not even been out of the box...
