I love my P, but...

I have had my P for 5 months now...I can't be happier with it and I bring it all the time with me wherever I go, It is a real joy to shoot!

The only problem is...I dont feel right when holding the camera especailly with heavy lens, meter, finder..bla bla bla... I think I need a GRIP!

now this is the only grip i found after some searching, http://www.photoequip.net/_forms/lm-grip.htm

it said Leica M grip, does anyone know, is it going to fit the P?
it cost $66 plus $12 for international shipping.. not cheap..
any other recommendation?

I have the older version of the Photoequip grip, and it fits the P well. I haven't tried the newer version. You can email Eric (of Photoequip). He is very helpful.

i have the older, more angled mgrip on all 3 p's.
i couldn't like them any better.

it is very much worth the price.
look for a used one also.

One of the things that makes a Canon P better than a CV (in addition to beauty and ruggedness) is the size. And I like domed incident meters (Gossen Digisix). And one of the reasons I got a 35 f2 was size (didn't want another brute in the viewfinder, like my Nokton). That covers most issues except for the viewfinder. I've got a great SBLOO
35, a wonderful gizmo, but I think it'll be better for me to learn (from practice) what the P's viewfinder really sees in 35mm...again, size.

Seems to me a grip, finder, mounted meter, and big lens begins to work against the reason for a rangefinder. But I'm only 5'10"...maybe for a BIG guy all that stuff's incidental.

i too am 5'10" and my hands are on the small size.

if you want t really small camera get a bottom loader.

the grip ADDS to the usefullness of the p, it does not detract, for me anyway.

i prefer the grip and a wrist strap to no grip and a neckstrap.
and until you have used either maybe reserve judgement on those who have.

I agree with Joe. With a neck strap, the P or M cameras are ok. But I prefer to carry it in my hand and use a wrist strap. The grip improves the ergonomics, and, for me, makes the P (and even moreso the M's) more comfortable to carry all day.

Joe, I was clearly stating my own perspective, explaining the why of it, not making "judgements." 😕

If someone else wants to do something else, more power to them. They shouldn't get angry when someone explains a preference for a different approach :bang:

And my IIIC is about as bulky with a finder as a P is without. But thanks for the paternal advice 🙄

We each have our preferences: One of mine has to do with being able to wear a camera without it automatically intruding into relationships with new people. It's slim and it hangs innocently behind my left arm (unless I'm carrying two, in which case subtlety's out the window). I'm not a candid photographer, rarely want to photograph people without their awareness: no need for instant access, my camera doesn't need to be in my hand 24/7.

I even wore my F1 that way, when I had to: that was like trying to be subtle with an AK47 on a sling.

if by 'they' you mean 'me', then i need to clarify and say that i wasn't angry in the least.
the way i read your post, i will admit, did sound a bit judgemental to me but i was merely trying to explain that there are other ways to look at things.

we seem to agree on that.

withour hearing an inflection the written word alone can get confusing at times.
