I miss my T4, looking for a new compact

Probably juice enough to power meter, not enough to trip shutter. Do not remember how it were when first set of cells (LR44) gave up ghost. Installed pair of SR44 and still on road since then.

Amazing that this little camera takes pics like that!
I'm still on the look out for a Mju II but can't find it here in holland :(

Can't find a lot of images shot with the Espio AF Zoom 35/70 unfortunately. On flickr there are some but I dont like those Lomo developed images.

If you haven't seen this yet it is worth a look:
http://www.butkus.org/chinon/olympus/olympus_xa2/olympus_xa2.htm
And, if you backtrack a bit from that link, you'll be able to find manuals for most, if not all, of the cameras mentioned in this thread.
If you can't find the Muji II, try looking for a Stylus Epic ; same camera but that was the US market name.
I had both the original and second versions of it and thought the results were excellent but I found the shape of the camera didn't suit me very well. I searched for and found a Pentax UC-1 (Espio Mini) and am much happier with that one. Functionally they are very similar to the Olympus cameras but the UC-1 is a bit bigger and much more rectangular. So, for me, easier to use.

This thread reminded me that I have a Canon Sure Shot Classic 120 that I need to put a battery in and see if it is usable!
Good luck!
Rob

Anybody used Leica Mini with Elmar 35mm 1:3.5 ??
I've seen excellent images from it on flickr.

Excellent lens as David Hughes' car picture shows. I have a Minolta version lying around, if you'd like it msg me your address, I'll send it out.

:)

I've recently gone through a Yashica T4, Leica Minilux, and an Olympus Stylus Epic. You really can't go wrong with any of these, but ended up keeping the Minilux, as I preferred the Minilux' controls.

The Minilux' shutter died last year, and I've finally replaced it with a Ricoh GR D II. So far, I've very happy with it - nicest manual controls I've seen on a compact P&S, and it's very customizable. Resolution is comparable to my film scans, noise looks pleasant up to ISO 400 (and it's hand-holdable at very low speeds, I've had decent luck down to 1/4s), although dynamic range still falls short of film. It's small enough that I can keep it in my pocket all the time, which I can't say for most 35mm P&S cameras.

I just received the XA2 along with the Espio AF Zoom Full macro.
The XA2 has a green light burning in the viewfinder, but the batterycheck is silent and I can't seem to place a film in the camera and forwardwind it. Also the shutter is not responding. I'm guessing new battery is needed, right? But than why is this green light still burning?

Hi,

A green light, bottom right hand corner, means not enough light and or slow shutter speed. In other words, it warns you of camera shake.

If there's no film in it try it with a higher ISO set or check it in daylight.

Regards, David

PS See what I meant about setting the focus? Easy isn't the word...

so I got the XA2 in and have put a roll of Portra400 in. I spent all the film on test shooting my girlfriend in the bedroom.. not the worst test subject I can tell ya ;)

I read somewhere that the shutter release button is very very sensitive.. so I pressed it gently. But mine isn't so sensitive. In fact.. 2 out of 10 presses, it doesn't even respond. Any ideas why?

The weird thing is that with the X11 flash on.. it seems to respond a lot more sensitive.

-edit-.. after pressing it a million times without film in it.. it seems to show no issues anymore. I did read on this forum that some say to turn the wheel a bit more when the shutter doesn't respond too much.

which batteries di you put in lr44 or sr44?

I have used several compact P&S over the past thirty years or so. They include Minox GT, Olympus XA, Olympus EPIC Stylus, Rollei XF, Contax T2, .....

I prefer the Minox for very sharp images. The camera is very small and very light, with a fixed 35mm 2.8 lens.

Hi Jamie, Mine does this once in a while also. It seems to be a common issue. You might want to give Matt Denton's page on the XA2 a read.

http://mattsclassiccameras.com/olympus_xa2.html

On it, he states: " I've read that a common issue is inconsistent shutter tripping when pressing the red plastic button; apparently if it's pressed too hard it can deform and if it's not perfectly flat on the bottom it doesn't trip the shutter. But it can be removed and sanded, apparently that helps quite a bit."

I haven't tried this since I have multiple backups! But I may have to give it a go one of these days. By the way, the XA2 shoots a mean slide. Some of the best slides I've shot were taken in an XA2!
