If cameras were magically transformed into cars, what car do you envision your camera being, and why?

I try only to buy cameras where form follows function, and which are designed to last. This applies to the vast majority of my cameras: Leica, Nikon, Alpa, Linhof, Gandolfi...

if I can compare mine to my family's cars, since I don't own one (justification to spend more on film!)...

The Bessa is a bit like my mother's VW GTI -- a lot of scuffs, but the finder outclasses what you'd expect from the body. If only my mother would take advantage of that turbo.

The D3 reminds me of my brother's Subaru WRX. very fast, a bit flashy, but otherwise could pass as a daily driver. Not that the D3 is run of the mill, but it's more power than one needs for day to day assignments.

The M5 is a bit like my friend's old BMW 6-series. A little odd-looking, large but not Caddy sized. And under the hood it's as precise as one can be while still being able to take a wrench to it.

ok ok, to answer the question, given I have an M4 my car would probably be something small, old and functional, probably with a few funks of its own, maybe an old Citroen, those are so classy 🙂

Your picture of the PZKW IV reminds me of a wonderful quote by a German military historian. Writing about the manner in which Germany threw aside its armour and aerial lead by building fewer, more powerful tanks and aircraft, while the allies produced ever more tanks and planes that were "just good enough", he described Hitler as "the best of all the allied generals". Arthur C Clarke penned a short SciFi story which satirised that viewpoint very amusingly.

...and back to the question. I like to think that all my cameras would be Citroen 2CVs or Hyundai I10s 😉

I've just bought a Citroen C4 and I have to admit it has similarities to my D700 ... it's the most computerised car I've ever owned. There is even a menu where you can set user preferences if you can be bothered. It beeps at you when you reverse, open a door, undo a seatbelt and so on.

Whatever happened to just driving! 😀
