Hello, Robert. Is that a surfboard?
Yes and no! it's a shelf built by a surfboard builder the same way as the boards are built but only half lengthwise.
I've never surfed, we don't have coastlines with suitable waves but I would have loved to! Of course when I was young

My house has a somewhat eclectic modern Asian x European cross feel to it. If it were a dog it would be a mongrel. If it were equine it would be a mule.
But I am happy here and it reflects my character.
A view of my "genkan" (A Japanese entry.) Mine is not exactly Japanese but is a western take on a genkan with Eastern influences.
And a view of a small courtyard which is ideal for lounging about in winter sunshine being protected on all sides. It has its own "Eastern" protector who watches over it.
Another view
and another - at dusk
The rear of the house has a somewhat more European garden
The rear garden being sunny is ideal for the cat to lounge in
The family area follows the Eastern theme with a Japanese tansu to store reading matter, video DVDs etc.
Though yet more books manage to overflow onto the coffee table
My shishi (temple lion) from Southern China (or maybe from Malacca depending on who you believe) takes pride of place in the sitting room. I spent countless hours repairing this, it having been damaged by its years and, from the looks of it, some harsh treatment. In its present incarnation it now still looks old but is much better preserved.
