Industar-50 pancake lens for Bessa-L M39 mount?

I am looking at an Industar-50 pancake lens on the 'Bay - it is listed as M39 Leitz Leica Tessar copy, but then he states it is for "Zenit and other
SLR M39 photo cameras." I asked him if it would work with a camera such as mine, and this is the response I got:

"This lens on a groove approaches to cameras Bessa..
But the lens is intended for mirror cameras and it will be wrong
To work on Rangefinder. "

It's only about $23 including shipping - should I go for it anyway?
 
I wouldn't. I believe this is an SLR lens, so there won't be anything to couple with the rangefinder mechanism. Focusing would be challenging, at best.
 
The Bessa-L is a scale focuser anyway. I'm mostly concerned with if it would actually fit or not.
 
vice versa - this I50 made for early Zenits has flange distanse of around 45.5 mm and screwing it on camera with flange distance of 28.8mm will make something totally unusable. Unusable even for macro.

I had been wondering about the focusing thing, as I had started a thread about mounting Canon FD lenses on my Bessa using a Canon B converter. And while I received plenty of responses along the lines of, "What would you do a stupid thing like that for, mount a big SLR lens on that camera, you idiot," I never received a response telling me that it would not work. Nor did I find any information elsewhere online stating that it wouldn't work. In fact I heard from at least one person that they had used FD lenses successfully on an M39 camera. Why is that? Is it because the Canon FD mount cameras were slimmer than most other SLRs?

At any rate, it's good to know that I have to read the fine print when shopping around for lenses.

In your previous post you said that the lens would be too far away from the film - wouldn't an adapter move it farther away?
 
Okay, so I looked up flange distance and I think I get it. Theoretically it would work if I had an adapter to space it out, but one probably doesn't exist.
 
I have a Tessar 50mm/2.8 that originally was in M42 mount and then custom adapted to LTM.
 
This should probably be a separate post, but I'll put it here first in case any of the same people are watching this thread because you seem to know what you're talking about. Obviously M39 mount lenses have different flange distances depending upon application - what about M42 lenses? I ask because along with my converter to mount Canon FD lenses on M39 cameras, I also recieved a Canon P converter to mount M42 lenses on FD bodies, or on M39 bodies using both adapters. There is another Industar-50-2 lens, similar to the first one I was looking at, but in an M42 mount - might this work? Do I have to look for anything special when shopping M42 lenses? Thanks again.
 
I have already purchased the Canon B converter to mount FD lenses to LTM bodies. That way I can get started using the camera with good lenses while I'm looking for bargains in LTM lenses. It is terribly ungainly, but for about $40 I have two 28s, a 35, and a 28/35 combo (not to mention a couple 50s). Included with the Canon B adapter was a Canon P adapter, to mount M42 lenses to FD bodies. I didn't really need it, but I figure as long as I have it I might as well look at some M42 lenses (like I don't spend enough money). I wouldn't even neccesarily use the M42s on my Bessa, maybe just my A-1, as with two adapters the Bessa would be even more ungainly. Still, it seems there are some nice M42 lenses out there, such as Zeiss - I don't think they made any FD lenses. I was just wondering if there were M42 lenses made for different flange depths, like the M39 lenses.
 
Ah, ok. Thanks for helping me spend my money! If I get an M42 lens, I'll have to mount it on the Bessa anyway and post a picture of the beast!
