Interest in Create a Photo Book Swap?

Yes! Looks great, Steve. I agree the size is good. A nice sudy of the museum! I hadn't put tech information in mine, but now I think I might do that.

:)

Thanks for looking guys.
I was just counting things up and realized that, though I now have 5 rangefinder cameras, I only have a dozen or so rolls of film for shots to choose from. I've shot other rolls, but mostly to check out the camera and resolve functional/light leak issues.
I think I'm acutally on a path now that will allow me to get some more presentable images.

oddly enough, most of my best shots are from my 'test rolls' where I'm just playing around to see if the camera works.. it's when I get serious that my images become boring

Well then, I recommend about 4 fingers of your favorite brown liquor before shooting. Nothing like getting a little loose to help the right side of the brain take over. :D
(This actually works for shooting guns as well, but since the consequences for a lapse in judgement are so much more severe, I don't recommend it. )

Steve,
Well done! Those are some excellent images, and they hold together nicely. 5-7 images is a nice quantity to form a cohesive theme, I must say. The 8-15 photo portfolios I have to do at school can be tougher.

Just fyi - I created an actual blog post for your entry. I listed you as the author (I have "god" rights so I can do that mwahahahah) so you can edit it if you want. Perhaps provide some background information? perhaps not. Some prefer to let the work stand on its own.

The post is at http://photos.kaiyen.com/rffBlog/?p=459

I've also removed the sticky from the book project announcement.

I got started this late and somehow I'm the first to upload?

I took those shots on a business trip to LA. I did not think I'd get any real time to myself, so all I brought with me was the Balda and 2 rolls of T-max. When the chance to go to the Getty came up, I started kicking myself. I would have taken a DSLR, an ultra-wide and a short telephoto at least.
I'm happy with how it turned out though. It really taught me what I'd been missing in MF.

Steve,
What do you mean by what you are "missing in MF?" What MF gives you that you don't get with your DSLR? What limitations MF has?

Nice stuff Steve. Good to see that somebody's actually done it - was going to get mine done last weekend, but events overtook me. Going to try for this weekend. BTW Really like the desert shots on your web site.

I was under the impression these were going to be set up for computer viewing.. in which case, either 72 or 75 dpi is the standard for photos.. and a 5 photo document would probably be around 2 megs or less

you don't set a dpi for text, so don't worry about that.. but make sure the fonts are embedded

thats what I thought, normally when I save shots in PS for the web they end up about 150-180 kb. For some reason I can't figure out they are much larger. I'll figure it out.

Sorry that wasn't very clear Alan.
I should have said something about missing out by not shooting MF. Not to start a war, but 35mm negs fail to thrill me when I scan them. 6x6 is another matter. Medium format makes film worth the effort for me.
It's not that I really need the extra information in the file. I don't do that much printing (though I do prepare my shots as though I would print), I just like the look and feel of the file.
The main limitation I experience with that little balda is the single FL at a field of view that I'm not really fond of. Still, in the short term, a limitation like a single FL can be a good thing for what you are forced to do and learn. Even so, I'm looking forward to the 58mm lens coming in for my Koni-Omega.

I figured I was coming late to the game, so I put it together after I got the kids to bed last night.
Glad you like those desert shots. They are some of my favorite stuff. It took me years to come to appreciate the desert enough to do it some justice.

Mine is Done!

Mine is Done!

My finished PDF came in at 7MB. Now, I just need to upload it!

.

I noted earlier in this thread I have my shots done and in MSWord at about 3.0 mb. I converted to a PDF and came up with a 92 mb doc! I've tried but no way can I create an account at Adobe. They say my email address is already taken and I must create a new user and new email account! I tried GeneW's suggestion of going to the open source Office document. It has a problem with Mac OS X 10.4 .. not ready yet or something. So now I'm at a dead end.

Anyone interested in taking my MS Word doc and converting it to a PDF for this forum? I appreciate any help... thanks, Jan

Ray, I'm going to work now. I'm going to try one more time. If it doesn't work out. I'll pm you and then forward the Word doc.

thanks and appreciated!
Jan

Jan,
If you want to send it to me, I'll see what I can do.

:)

As Gid and Ray have discovered, there is a somewhat mysterious 2MB limit to uploads for now. I am working with my hosting company to fix this. This is only with php-based uploads - worst case, just send me the pdfs and I'll FTP Them over.

Will update later today, hopefully.
