Interest in Create a Photo Book Swap?

In my opinion - go for it. I don't see why it would be a problem - that's what the "Book Swap" category is for, so that we can look at just those items if we want.

My only word of caution is that if this doesn't take off as a community blog, you might be puting a lot of effort into something that will languish after a while.

I certainly like the idea. I will go through other photo blogs down the line and add them to the feed, as well. And I'll be putting up test shots and stuff there over time, I think.

jan, if you have enough photos for 5 or 10 books, give some to me.. I had a hard time coming up with 2 photos for the 2nd RFF book

i have no idea what to do next...;)

i think i'll check out the free software gene told us about.
i can put 5 to 7 pics together but it won't be new to anyone who has visited my gallery - but it will be a start. and maybe a few old poems.
some love poems...:)

I made mine in CS (photoshop), this is a test, let me know if it works for you.

Todd

Looks great, Todd. The transitions work nice. Some of the lines are coming out with 'jaggies.' Did you set the display in Acrobat to 'Fit to Page,' or 'Actual Size'?

:)

Hey RFF'ers where are we on this? I think I'm going to start assembling something and I'm wondering if we have a time line or is it going to be open ended to the group with some reasonable drop dead date for submission?

@ the Python fan type guy... sure I'll give you shots about how to catch trout or maybe build a rod, or cast, or tie flies, or drink, or sleep but you can only pick one. Okay?

Jan, let's just upload to Allan's blog site when were done, and maybe make an announcement here (?). I haven't checked the site recently, but I know some people were pretty close.

I've set up 4-page test booklet to try some stuff out, so I'm getting there, too.

:)

I won't be able to get to this until later this week. Sheesh! :)

The blog seems to be pretty stable. I will put some effort into changing the header image later this week, but work beckons.

Phew!,

Got to this pretty late as I didn't relate the title to the content. However I've now registered and as I have a Mac it won't be too difficult producing the pdf stuff. I might struggle a little with content a little because of current knee injury, but I'll definitely come up with something!

Count me In!

Andy
ps - just noticed this is my 100th post! wooohooo :p (sorry going a bit stir crazy here)

Hey, am I too late for this?
I've got all the tools I need and can offer server space if needed.
I'll have to scratch to find enough worthy images. I haven't been shooting rangefiner cameras for all that long.

You're not too late to participate in the photo book "swap" At this point, put together your book, based on the guidelines in the first thread (5-7 RF images is the only REAL guideline here), and then upload to the site. A few people have posted some test files in this thread if you need some ideas. I for one, can't wait to see them!

How big are the PDF's everyone else has so far? My PDF is 92 MB I'm not certain what is happening here but I'd like an indication from some others about the size of the PDF's they have created. I'm sure it should be smaller.

Maybe an indication of image dimensions used by others on this project would be helpful. I've used 1500 pixels on the long side for better image quality and I'm thinking this may be the issue.

It depends on how high quality you want it to be. Professional printing standard is usually 300 DPI for images and 600DPI for text, IIRC. When I was researching graphic design back when I first got on the 'net, I read that *somewhere*.

I was under the impression these were going to be set up for computer viewing.. in which case, either 72 or 75 dpi is the standard for photos.. and a 5 photo document would probably be around 2 megs or less

you don't set a dpi for text, so don't worry about that.. but make sure the fonts are embedded
