Interest in Create a Photo Book Swap?

All,
Just to verify, I have tested and confirmed my ability to password protect access to the entire directory in which the blog resides. Since I can also publish from blogger to my site, I can do the same thing that way.

I personally prefer wordpress since it's a bit more powerful in terms of customization. However, since I myself have not completely figured out all of the features of WP, I don't mind going to blogger. It's really whether anyone has a strong opinion on it.

By the way - I know many of us have photo blog already but...would anyone find a community blog of interest? I have some ideas on this, but if you guys in this thread shoot it down quickly I won't bother posting separately.

I am pretty sure I've set it up for posting and uploading of files. I will try it out when I get to work, though.

It does not look like you have signed up yet, though. When you sign up you are a "level 0" user. I have to elevate you to at least level 2 so you can post. I get an e-mail whenever someone registers so I have been promoting people pretty quickly.

Other than that, once you are registered you can go ahead and post. As I said, this doesn't even have to be just for the book. We can also post other things here if anyone wants.

Let's stick with WordPress for now. A lot of us use blogger, so if WP doesn't end up working, we can switch, probably fairly easily. I like the way WP looks. Is that a default template, Alllan, or did you set it up?

I'll go ahead and compile a list, and then send everyone a PM, asking them to register.

I can't wait to see some of these!

IIRC the Login is under Meta. Click on Meta, then on Login, and then on Register.

I added a blog post saying how to create an account. Sorry.

Also, I just verified that one can upload a pdf (using the "upload" feature in the admin panel). That then gives you some html that you can directly copy/paste into your blog post.

I set it so that the biggest upload is 500MB. Is that big enough? I have never created pdf's with at LOT of graphics in them.

So...we're pretty good to go.

Ray - it's a pre-created template I downloaded. What do you guys think of it? Too dark? I can switch it if you like. At some point, I'll replace the picture on the top, too.

So I've changed the theme yet again. Do you prefer the current, red one, or the previous black one? I have decided I like having the nav stuff on the side, rather than as links off the main page. Hm.

I can work on changing the colors if the red one is too...punchy.

I like it, but it is very strong.

I'd be inclined to say the same idea in blue (image and all!) - but every other website in the world is mainly blue :p
 
I like the navigation on the side too. It falls into the "blog" framework and seems natural. The red is definitely a different feel, very blogg-ish, but I like it. The black is serious and arty; I liked it too, but it was dark. The templates with WP are nice, especially compared to blogger.

Sorry Rich - the directions were for the black theme. I've modified them for the red theme.

Just scroll down to the bottom right, to the meta section.

I'll work on changing the color later today. A lot of blogs are blue...I tend to go more dramatic, but perhaps it's too much and distracting.

Oh boy, I LOVE the red! Maybe you could post the general PDF book guidelines there? I seem to have already forgotten the # of pages, etc. I'd think I have ADD but I suppose it could be that I'm trying to work, keep tabs on the NCAA tournament games and read RFF all at the same time!

The first post on the blog is a wholesale copy/paste of Ray's original post. Ray - I set you as the author, so you can edit it all you want.

I set it as "sticky" so it'll be the first post all the time.

Already ready to upload? Sheesh! I hope to start putting something together this weekend but I don't expect to have something ready for a couple of weeks.

Oh yeah - when you post, be sure to select "PDF Book Swap" as your post category. That way, people can click on that and see all of the posts relevant to that.
