Just out of curiosity, but is this turning into a forum where people who make spelling mistakes are to be treated as meaningless non-entities? I don't necessarily agree with someone who uses shortcuts in their writing, but doesn't that sort of thing happen on this forum everyday, sometimes by those who are belittling those who do the very same thing? "GAS" anyone? I guess the moderators will have a new job, handing out notices to all who use improper sentence structure, or god forbid, improper punctuation. That one might just be punishable by banishment, isn't it?
Yes, cweeks posted comments about individuals on this site, with links to their respective galleries on his blog. Last time I checked, a few posters here, went on over to his blog and left comments. Is it not expected that maybe a few of his readers may come over here and make attempts to defend him? It is dialogue amongst two groups, who may just be of different generations, where standards of communication may be a little different amongst each group's respective peer set. What's acceptable to most here on RFF, may not be acceptable to others, and vice-versa.
While some may be dismissive of those who do not spell correctly, amongst my peers, it would be nonsense to do such a thing. We all come from varied backgrounds, be they religious, educational, ethnic, linguistic or economical. If someone doesn't know how to spell something, we let them know how, we don't tell them they are stupid, and unwanted. Should I say to every american poster that I cannot take them seriously for not knowing the correct spelling of colour?
Why are people not able to accept that communication is just that, no more, no less? So long as the idea has been communicated to the person, then the goal of communication has been completed. If we are after only a certain target audience, let us say with a certain educational level, then maybe I am no longer welcome here. I have no diplomas to prove I have a college education, should I sign off and not come back?
In my life, I have met people who have not learned how to read, to not speak with them because of that would make me lesser of a person. To dismiss others merely because they lack something that you feel they should have, is vile. That leads to discrimination on all levels and that is something that should be strongly fought against, lest we descend into previous low levels of decency this world has seen in the past.
I'll now tell you a few things about me, so that those who feel like I am not one of them can either ignore me, of move to have me removed for RFF altogether.
I am:
a factory worker who worked a lot of overtime to buy the things he has, not for the wanting of it, but because my hands are getting damaged on the job and I can no longer hold the wait of my Minolta system in my hands, but also holds no bitterness or envy to those who can afford to buy whatever they want, whenever they want
an atheist, while I can also at the same time find respect for any and all people who have their chosen beliefs, and not feel the need to let them know that I feel they are immoral, and going to hell for being whatever
have piercings in my face
shave my head every other day, so very convenient
prefer my jewelry to be made of stainless steel and brass, who feels that too many people have been murdered and mutilated for the over-inflation of common metal and gems such as gold and diamonds
who no matter how hard anyone tries will never agree with the argument that capitalism is the best way of going about our daily lives (see above), but at the same time cannot think of any way, no matter how perfect that isn't corruptible by insignificant monkeys
This isn't meant to start an argument, it is something that, after reading a few posts in this thread, I felt I had to get off my chest. That's it.
