Time to introduce the newest member of my little Canon family. The V-T arrived last week, and I've finally managed to run a roll of film through it.

Why a V-T? Well, it makes a nice companion to the P, and for me is better suited to a 35mm lens than the P. The V-T has three selectable viewfinder magnifications, with the 35mm setting (according to the Canon Museum) set at 0.4x magnification. (The VI-T is 0.65x for the 35mm viewfinder.) For me, with my eyesight and spectacles, that makes it ideal for the 35mm lens. The viewfinder is not as bright as the P, but bright enough. I've also read that the reflective-gold finish of the prism is better lasting than the silver finish in the later models. The trigger winder takes a bit of getting used to, but there's also the knob-wind option if you are not in a hurry (and weary of stabbing yourself in the stomach!).

This one has seen some bumps at some stage - there's a dent over the viewfinder at the front, but apart from that it's in pretty reasonable condition and the rangefinder image aligns perfectly. The slow shutter speeds (under 1/4) are unreliable, so at some stage I'll plan for a CLA.

Here's a sample shot from last weekend's "Salute to the Veterans" celebration of the 60th anniversary of the end of the War in the Pacific, here in Canberra. Sample pic here.

And the best thing? We share the same year of birth. 🙂 Nice to use a camera that's as old as I am!

Now - has anybody got a spare case (even a rough one) for one of these?

I don;t have a spare, but cases for the trigger wind models usually pop up on Ebay. I paid $25 for my case for the Vt. Generally one or two available per month, and they do not get a lot of bids.

Yep! I'd like to get a proper Canon 35mm lens for it eventually, but that will have to take a back seat for now. And the CV does take nice pictures.

Do you think if we talk up the V-T, VI-T and L-1, we can slow down the rush on P's?
