I plan on betting an iPad just to read magazines. All my subscriptions lapsed about 3 months ago. I figure iPad is the way to go to renew the few that are available. I will be getting the wifi only version. For on the go I have my laptop with sprint 4g and an iPhone.

They begged me to try the iPad. They deposited it in my studio. I tried and tried to like it. But I can do everything SO much faster and easier on my laptop, which is not that much bigger. If I traveled with an iPad, I'd have to bring my laptop along too. I just don't get it, these tablet things are selling like crazy.

You can't really think of it as a laptop replacment. It's a media reader, plus gaming machine. I have an iMac, but no need for a macbook, yet I'd still like to surf the web, eread, play games or write emails on the couch or the train, whereever. For me the iPad fills that void perfectly.

Plus as a sci fi fan...OMG how could I not. Capt Kirks log tablet is here! The future is now! (and this is ironic for me as I cling to my film cameras, yet yern for the future tech.)

The iPad, no question. Much more capable machine.

In an iteration or two, when the iPad will have a fat solid-state drive and a bagful of RAM, there will be little reason to lug around a laptop or confine your computing to a desk.

if you're happy with your current bodies, why bother with a leica? ;)

i want an ipad2 as well. when i have photo meetups i'd love to have one to show off my work. if i want to expand in the future, i can use one one for a portfolio. i could also use it for my work by showing people our product, as well as keeping myself sane on business trips - it would condense a book, laptop, nintendo ds and an ipod into one, easily packed device.

That's like trying to decide between spending your money on a holiday at Club Med or a holiday in the Ukraine.

I'd take the Ukraine any day!

Captain Kirk's pad, no. -

The IPad reminds me more the computer tablets used in "The Foundation Trilogy", Asimov.

I say the M2, because if you are getting an iPad you need to have a desktop or laptop to tie it to with iTunes, making the iPad somewhat redundant. Sure, it is nifty, but I think the M will last longer and do more.

Nice one Keith, but the Club is virtually copulating dead.

Love your i-pads, where did you get them from?
It's called an eye pad and it's meant to take pictures with.
No kiddin'. That's cool!

I don't get out much! :D

For me, it was lens or iPad (I already have a 16G wifi+3G iPad), and I decided to buy the last gen 64G wifi model for my upcoming trip to Spain and Morocco. Yes, I'll have two iPads along, but as I'm not taking a laptop, it'll mostly be used for photo storage enroute. Plus that way himself can use one of them, too, and that means he won't need to bring a laptop either.

Since a bunch of early adopters will be dumping theirs on the bay, I should be able to pick one up cheaper than the refurbs on the Apple store.

I've been on six trips since I got my first iPad (I'm on my second; the first was wifi-only, and I upgraded later in the year). Except when I was on call and would need my laptop, I've been able to do just fine with only my iPad. As someone who normally has a laptop as a part of my body, that was surprising to me.

With the price reductions on the original iPad, I'm more inclined to purchase the discontinued model rather than the slightly refreshed iPad 2.
