I've got my 2 M2's so ...
Anyone know how good the camera is on the iPad compared to the iPhone 4 (okay) or the latest iTouch (not so good)?

Get the M2 first, the iPad later. They upgrade or redesign these things every six months. Give the iPad a chance to mature and settle down to a final design. The M2, on the other hand, is a mature design with no improvements needed!
Get the M2. You will get an iPad, or something better, when you get around to it.

I do not get this geek speak and constant desire to upgrade to the latest gear.
At our favorite restaurant this weekend, the 5 year old daughter of one of the owner's came up to us with an IPad that she had drawn a picture of a butterfly. She was going to see the Doctor, and wanted us to make sure nothing happened to the Butterfly picture. She left it with us, was pretty easy to save it to disk. My one and only encounter with an IPad.
It's all marketing... what's the old saying? "a fool and his money are soon
parted"?
If you already have an M and a first-generation iPad, save your money for retirement, you'll probably need it.
Sent from my iPad
I have 'sufficient' M bodies and I'm not shopping. Before Christmas I inadvisedly mentioned to my wife I might like the rumored iPad 2, and being the gadget-hound she is, she jumped on board too. So at Christmas I gave her a custom printed gift certificate for an iPad 2, whenever available, in whatever configuration she desired. So it looks like I'll need to be fulfilling that promise soon!
Meanwhile, maybe I don't 'need' my own iPad after all. The recent 13" MacBook Pro would be a good mobile replacement for my good old 12" PowerBook G4, as "Intel Inside" is becoming imperative, and the CaptureOne Pro 6 would run on it...

There are many competitor and maybe better than apple..
looks galaxy tab II , or others android tablet.
the different from ipad 1 compare to ipad2 are just the processor and camera i would say, even the battery live was same.
get M series, as long as clutch it doesn't need battery for live..

Yeah, but a fool and his life could soon be parted too...

that coveted M2 is no more worth than an old ipad.
the only reason it has value is because we attach value to it.
once all those baby boomers die, or film gets destroyed by the loss of the motion picture industry (i said destroyed which doesnt mean gone completely), that m2 would be just as worthless as an ipad.
stop worrying about things as an investment. you may die tomorrow. live your life and stop worrying about what some piece of junk will be worth fifty years when you are about to croak.

I'm waiting for iPad3, which will run Windows 7, AndroidOS and AmigaOS. It is my most reasonable expectation. Oh, that and an M10 which with weather seals, autofocus and and MP3 player.

A disposable electronic toy or a camera. Hard choice!
EDIT: The same is true of just about ANY camera, come to think of it, except possibly a Diana.
Cheers,

I find it funny that people here actually agree on getting the iPad 2.

Yep, get the M body. Wait a few months and find a nice iPad 1 at your local thrift store......

Didn't know, the iPad2 will have an M-mount.
Other than it will, I don't understand the question.
I will revisit the iPad 2, when it is available. The original iPad had no place in my life - it can do a few things badly, does one thing brilliantly (display photos) and does a lot of important things not at all (proper, fast access to data for sharing, synching, backup and use as external mass storage for a Mac, work professionally with Excel on the road, have Adobe Lightroom running and sharing with other Macs, …)
The original iPad has been a sofa toy in my eyes, since it has been announced, to be a bigger iPhone (which I have and use heavily) instead of being a keyboard less Mac with OS X running.
THAT would be an iPad, I would buy unseen (Macbook Air 11" without keyboard, but full OS X functionality including FAST data accessibility in form of Firewire or now TB).
Get the M body - it is much more versatile yet simple ;-)

Get the Leica! Several people have already said that it keep it's price better and is not influenced by the rapidly aging technology.

Being a toy for a nice price, the iPad is cool, but the way I see it, is, that I wold want:
- WiFi
- 3G (GPS usage with the iPad + email on the road)
- biggest storage (photo library)
This equals to the most expensive iPad, which equals to: too expensive for a toy of this sort (a 13" MBP is not much more expensive by comparison).

Wish i had the choice, here "Down Under" you get an Ipad every where, but no Leicas to speak of. I take the Leica anyday.
Easy.
