The world is beautiful because of diversity. I'm happy not everyone is/thinks the same.
But since this is a photography forum, one would think that the results would be swayed toward the M.

I have no objection to another M body, and no desire for an iPad of any ilk. Unfortunately there was no poll option for '135mm Elmarit and a crate of good beer'.

i think it's funny that the near sighted here, when they have no use for something, call it a toy. very insulting...like an m body is some religious object. i have no real use for religion or a leica atm.
this is a rangefinder forum and the question is more biased than a guy in a white sheet at a gun convention!
most of the folks knocking the ipad likely have never even seen one up close let alone used one.
they are not computers but that will fall on deaf ears. they have a singular place in the family of electronic gear...the enlightened will own a macbook, and iphone and an ipad, will have instant access to the world of electronic media and information, music, books etc.
the rest of you can continue to clean the fuzz out between your toes...

apple, oh apple, why have you complicated life in this way?
Somehow I do not understand the question. But I am not so bright anyway. I could ask should I buy a Mustang or a Tank? Neither is a substitute for the other. And one is definitely more expensive than the other. Lenses for an M; maintenance and ordnance for the tank. And whatever goes with aniPad.
Now, if you asked should I buy an equivalent to an iPad or an iPad, well, that would make sense but an M-body?
In other words as has been stated before, it is a matter of priority. Need priority is different than want priority. Only you can answer either priority question.
Or, just get an SP and forget about!
Good luck, it's always tough making decisions...

Sensible and wise words, Dave.
(Not necessarily the SP part, but the rest.)

The iPad 2 is delayed for a number of weeks, 4-5 at last count. I couldn't get a hold of one. At the same time, I did my taxes last weekend and my return is expected to be much, much larger than expected. It's got me thinking about getting an M myself! I've always wanted an M and a Summicron... I just love that word, love the way it looks, love the way it sounds... Summicron.
Unfortunately the classifieds have been pretty quiet this week.

I see this is an old thread and I expect the last posters all voted for the second option now that the iPad is already at v4. Anyone here who would still prefer the iPad over a (film) M body?

I have both an Ipad 2 and an M3 - I'd say if you already have an M then an Ipad is a better choice. Yes technology moves quickly but I find my ipad infinitely useful, not only as a photography tool but just in my daily life or as a household convenience.
Have to admit I use my ipad as a light table sometimes.
