I see what you're getting at, Peter, and you got pretty damn close, too. But this is about the most difficult thing to get just right (and one of the ten or so reasons I pushed away the SLRs for RFs – for me, at least, this is easier to attempt with RFs).

Lot of good advice here already.

Evaluate your specific situation. Record your settings. Look at the prints. See what percentage of photos would have benefited from a faster lense.

Then go and use TX @ 1250/1600 developed in Diafine vs. what you currently use.
Check again if you still need more speed.😀
Try a cheaper combo first (Canon 50/1.2, Nokton 50/1.5, Nokton 35/1.2). If it makes a big difference and you are missing something (unlikely😉) you can still spend more on a 'lux.


OTOH, if you need the additional stop for composing, then the decision is already made.
