I guess, my M4-2 case is worse than yours M5. My example was taken on Isabelle street in Montreal just after we went on the street from hotel first in the morning...
But for now I'm going to cover the lens while I'm walking and advance the film before exposure to be taken.

I have noticed a light leak like that if I take the lens off my older Leica III's in the sun to do a lens change. So it seems to be coming through the light baffles more on the older Leicas.

Try just advancing first. The uncocked curtain might sit better with the baffles. It's a little bit quicker than having to remove a cap before a shot. Do a test roll and see if it makes a difference being more conscientious about how much light is entering the lens.

I haven't seen a messed up shot in quite some time.

It could also be because of changing lenses as mcfingon says as well.

I told Gerry that I did a flashlight test by blasting the front side of the curtain with light and looking in and around the shutter to see if I can see light coming. when I told him I could see light he said any camera you would see light coming through it's just the way the Leica shutters are designed.

OK! Will advance just before exposure to be taken. Just like Winogrand did...

M3 I sold was also showing light with flashlight test. And so does FED-2. But none of those ever shown this light leak. It might be not so critical, just like Gerry told.
