yes, it's only just Christmas - but nearly another year gone!. I don't usually make general new year resolutions, but have one or two photographic ones in mind. Firstly, I shall try to stop being lazy, and use one of my two excellent tripods a lot more, If I'm honest - a lot of my work would be just that little bit sharper, and better composed. Also in pursuit of quality, I intend to use the medium format gear a lot more, looking through my work - it really does stand out from the 35mm stuff!. Finally I shall try ( and this will be the hard one! ) to quit buying gear, as I have way too much accumulated to use, and lately - when I go out, it's 'decisions-decisions'!. This year has been a bad one - health wise, for me, and I am fortunate to be still around to use my cameras!, so I shall look after myself a little more - re. lifestyle, diet etc., and instead of worrying too much about the output of pictures, just be glad to be out there!.
So, what - if anything - will you do to improve the pastime in the coming year?
Best Wishes, Dave. :)

My only photography resolution will be to make more time to actually get out and take more pictures.

I've got all the gear I want (or more to the point, need) so there'll be no buying activity next year

And I'm glad to hear that you're still with us Dave

I'd like to work more on planned photography projects, and a little less time on random shooting--I want to do something meticulous and deliberate this year.

In other areas, I want to be good enough at the drums by the end of 2010 to sit in with friends and play competently (I am generally a guitarist/keyboardist). Also to do some more casual/short-form writing.

Also exercise more, which the drumming and photo projects should help with!

I resolve/resolute to work on more (self-made) projects rather than just shooting around the streets. I resolve/resolute to get closer. I resolve/resolute to join a serious (Magnum) workshop and get some directions from an admired pro. I resolve/resolute to get a little bit better in m photography, and that will come, coz practice makes perfect, I can see it.

Well said! - now take the overnight ferry from Europoort to Hull, and give me a helping of that enthusiasm! :D
Dave.

No time for that Dave :) I decided not to wait for next year and start breaking my resolution right now! I' gonna go out now and just "shoot around" instead of doing some "meaningful project". Damn, I knew I couldn't last :(

Dear Dave,

My resolution? Recognize that it's silly to expect more than 100 lp/mm reliably on film (and only centrally, at that) and that 80 lp/mm is very good.

Or wasn't that the kind of resolution you had in mind?

Cheers,

R.

Really it's 'old hat' now Roger!....Bokeh and Glow - are the 'in' attributes - allied of course to the 'footprints' and 'signatures'.
Dave.

I have one photography related resolution, and that is to "streamline my workflow" (god how I hate that phrase), firstly by using only neopan and rodinal, and secondly by implementing a whole new filing/file-naming system to archive my negatives properly.

I resolve to finally begin scanning the best picks from several binders filled with negative sleeves.

I made this resolution a few months ago, because I ordered a new film scanner for Christmas. My wife got a digital photo frame as well, so some of those family pictures can be displayed instead of being filed away.

My photo related resolution for 2010 is to devote time each month to shooting completely out of my comfort zone. Maybe I'll surprise myself and find out I really like shooting rocks and trees. :)

To have a small exhibition by the end of the year based around the project I'll be starting in a month or so. If it sucks and nobody likes it that's OK ... at least I will have done it and learned something!

To shoot more deliberately and most definitely to print more - perhaps a print a week instead of just a photo a week (showing only on the web). Also I'm going to create a photo book or two of my favourites.

I resolve to put together at least one photo book using Blurb or some similar publishing system.

Maybe 2010 will be the year the RFF-members show us what kind of footwear people wear?

+1 for footwear. We have discussed, hats, boxer shorts, jackets with pockets, vests, bags, and carrying straps. Shoes are also important. I was in a mall last week and noticed all the old goats in ball caps and white sneakers. I looked at this old goat in a mirror and I was wearing a ballcap and white sneakers.

For Christmas I made sure I got a drivers cap and brown shoes.

I think I'll get some hiking boots for photography.

A few years ago, I resolved to update my lenses to models with the best resolution I could afford. That was with SLRs.

Now, with my X-Pan, I have extended that to lenses I can't afford!

I resolve instantly to dismiss as rubbish any photo I don't like (or which, in my opinion, panders too much to the tastes of the common herd), and to assume that everyone else must agree with me without question.

And to buy at least one of everything. ;)
