I have a quick question: does anyone know of where I could get a good lens hood for my Jupiter-11? I found a generic 40.5mm telephoto hood but it looks like it's causing vignetting in a few photos. It doesn't look like it's mechanical vignetting, but I've heard hood that aren't made specifically for your lens can do that sometimes. Should I step it up to 43mm and try to find that size hood?

That could be a solution. But I would rather try first a normal lens hood (not a telephoto one). It should be more than enough to shield the lens from stray light.

I thought a normal hood might be too wide for a 135mm lens. It's just odd because the only photo with a lot of vignetting was at f4, which would be wide open. Nothing else really has it, so it's not mechanical like the all the hoods I tried on my LTM Canon 28mm before I found a hood for the Fuji X10 that works.

I haven't use my J-11s all that much but I just use the same "normal" vented hood that I use on 50mm lenses. No obvious problems with that regarding flare and it won't vignette.

I searched on ebay and found a vintage hood for mine. See this post:

It is a bit longer and narrower than the hoods I have for my 50mm lenses. Not marked for brand unfortunately so I can't tell you who made it.
I think I searched "40.5 tele hood".
Good hunting!

Yours is wider at the end than mine, perhaps that's part of the problem. I will see if I can't find something like it if it comes up on eBay or something. Otherwise I'll just switch to a standard hood or step it up a size.

I'd try Fedka first. The lens hood I bought for a 40.5 mm FSU lens is metal and very well made - inexpensive too. Check out this link and good luck. http://fedka.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=40
