We're all light!
Indeed, Coney's the place, and the Parade's a ton of freewheeling (and occasionally salacious) fun. I'll be sleepless (or not) in Seattle by then, but I hope y'all can make it there, since there are more proverbial Kodak Moments than you might be able to handle.
I'll be back (just) in time to meet up at Puck Fair. Probably won't have time to scan & print much of what I shot, but I'll try to bring something.

DN, I always wondered why you didn't come (and a few other NYers). If for nothing else, there is always something different to look at camera / lens wise and the beer isn't a horrible selection.

Hmm, I've got some vacation time scheduled before and after; I'm gonna have to try and actually make it for once. The parade and what-not sound like some great opps.
The subways are ultra slow so its your own best interest to get there early. The best shooting is early on IMHO before the place gets mobbed. If I had a car I'd still take mass transit. Driving in is a big mistake.
I like the staging area near the beginning of the parade. Look for a skinny Asian with an arrogant chin beard. I'll likely be shooting a Mamiya 6 with a 50/4.0 and a Rollei 3.5F.
Be prepared to see lots of naked breasts. Hopefully the pole dancing float returns (my favorite).

I'll probably have the M9'er.

Lots of M9's in our group. I believe the most we ever had at a single Meet-Up was four M9's.

So, what time for next Sunday? 1:00?

1:00 PM works for me.
Saturday's weather looks to be good for the Mermaid Parade. Looks like no chance of showers.

I'll just let you guys photograph the parade and enjoy your photos.

Turns out, my bud's been wanting to hit the parade for his birthday for a while now - so even more reason to go. I really hope I can make it, it sounds like a total blast and so many vibrant colors and things to shoot.
Definately a great event to shoot.
BTW don't look for a Mamiya 6 with 50/4.0 and a Rollei 3.5F. Look for s tall skinny Asian with a ponytail and arrogant chinbeard carrying two Nikon F3's rigged with motordrives.
Last year I shot the event with a Rollei 3.5F and a Tele Rolleiflex, but this year I wanna blast away. Reloading 120 in MF was painfull because of all of the shooting opportunities.

Good setup to have when surrounded by mermaids with (using my worst Monty Python accent) huge...tracts o' land! Sorry I won't be there. But I'll see you all the following Sunday at PF.

Back to packing. (Cue: "Leaving on a Jet Plane.")

Cal, I'm sure! Reloading 120 can't be fun at such an event. Totally why I'm going digital.
Funny. I'm a tall, mostly skinny white dude with a ponytail that's clean shaven and just arrogant.![]()
Last year I had just got my 3.5F back from Harry Fleenor, the Tele Rolleiflex was a new aquisition, and I was totally new to MF and pretty overwelmed. I was pretty slow loading, but at least was shooting 220 in the 3.5F.
Earlier this year at a dance parade I met the pole dancer that I shot last year. I told her about the sequence of shots I took of her where she jumped up the pole-inverted herself-and then went spread eagle. She basically made a cruxifix with her body and the pole that spread across the entire square negative. This girl is amazing and I would later learn her name is "Brooklyn."
Seems like there could be more of a squad this year since at the dance parade there was a team of pole dancers promoting a pole dancing school on 5th Ave in mid town.
I just might have to bring a Rolleiflex just for the pole dancers. LOL.
BTW I felt like a freak at a side show because all these people engaged with me because of the Rollei's. An old hippy with two Rollei's became a tourist attraction.

I am a smut queen. This years pole dancer exposed 34 D's, but no great feats of flexability this year in the staging area. Glade I had the Rollei loaded with 220.

I'm a B&W film guy. I have the shots.
Perhaps I'll have Andre scan and post them for me since I'm digitally inept.
I have a series from last years Mermaid Parade; I have another set of a team of pole dancers from a "dance parade" that occured May 21st when I was looking for the end of the world people; and this years T&A shots near the staging are.
BTW I have bad boundies. At my first Mermade Parade I got "Brooklyn" inverted upside down where she made a full frame cruxifix on my square negative when she went spead eagle; at the dance parade I have a shot where a dancer almost kicked my Mamiya 6 equipt with a 50/4.0 out of my hand when she went spread eagle. This year the dancer kinda targeted me teasing me with T&A. Of course the shots are close up and tight.
Cal the perv.

Awesome, Cal... Looking forward to your... Eposé.
I thought about shooting film, but I'll leave that for another time. I'd never been before and now that I know what to expect, I'll probably adjust my gear next year. Yes... I plan to attend again. Heh. Just a lot of fun.
I just had a less than desirable spot, at least for the first half of the parade. Finally, I'd had enough of the photogs and other people jumping around in front of me and broke through the barrier. Still. Next year I think the staging area is the place to be. I was a bit further down - since I got there a bit late it was already crowded and wanted to scope out a spot ASAP.
It might take a few weeks as I have to ask Andre for a favor to scan. I'll probably title the thread, "Street Porn."
Dan is a Lawn-Guy-Land dude also. Dan was pretty funny: first he'd ask to take a picture; then when they said yes, Dan would pose them like he was an art director using pro models. LOL. DAn is a really funny guy. Lots of funny comments and I could help but laugh.
I left at 2:50 PM with Tung. At one point I felt myself becoming a hostile New Yorker because this one guy kept on jumping into my shot repeatedly. I basically yelled at him and gave him "the look." It didn't happen again.
