New York June Meet-up?

LOL! That would make a good title. :p

That's funny, ha! There was an old guy near me that was workin' the honeys in the crowd and the parade. Lil' point and shoot too. Come to think of it, there were a LOT of people shooting film and old cameras around me. My M9 certainly did not go unnoticed.

Wow, 2:50pm? That's pretty early. It went until close to 4ish. But I hear ya. I had more than one tourist tell me I needed to move/get out of the way. There were a bunch of "photogs" running amok in the street in front of me that I came very close to bludgeoning. CONSTANTLY in my way. I was on my best behavior though...

Next year come early. If you want drive to LIC, Court Square and we'll take the subway together. Plenty of free parking on the weekends.

The talent is definately more patient with shooters earlier in the day. I mostly shot my M6 rigged with a 75 Lux so I got really up close for tight shots, but for a challenge I shot Arcos at 100 ISO. A lot of my exposures were either wide open or close to it. It was really great having subjects that were openly exhibitionists.

Next year I'm going to shoot with my Plaubel 69W for a wide and my Rollei 3.5F. The Plaubel is basically a 24mm equiv, but with a 6x9 negative. Hopefully I will still have some 220 left.

Cal, I think you should bring every camera you own, all around your neck at the same time. The hootchies will go wild.

Last year I kinda was a side show with a Rollei 3.5F and a Tele Rolleiflex, but this year I saw a lot of Rollei's.

John brought out a Hassy SWC. What an awesome camera. Too bad Photo Village wants $5K for one. Ouch.

When I spread out all my gear, my girlfriend calls the display a "camera farm" because it keeps growing.

BTW John that I mentioned above is the real gear whore of the New York group.

"Pics or it didn't happen." :D

I PM'ed Andre. We should be posting that "Street Porn" thread after the 4th of July. Please be patient.

This also gives me time to sort through my negatives. I guess John is right: I'm a perv. LOL. It's kinda funny how many people exhibit themselves on NYC streets. BTW I was running around topless, but I don't look like a 53 year old man. Artist by definition are exhibitionists. LOL.

In addition to the digital output posted earlier, I am going to develop my 120 negatives tomorrow. Not sure if I still have time to make prints fast enough to bring with me for the meet up this weekend. For shooting around the staging area early, the SWC and my Leica M + 50mm Lux seem to be the right combo for me. However, parade contestants seem to give favors, more eye contact to photogs with big DSRL with big flash in broad daylight. And, those guys are likely to jump in front of you and block your view. One of the girls in the Blue Lady group was giving out business cards and ask photogs to send them back pictures. She hesitated when she saw my rangefinder. Rangefinder shooters no longer have the series photogs appearance any more, I guess. Next year, I need a styrofoam DSLR to catch their attention, then pull my rangerfinder for real photographs. Alternatively, I would suggest we need a bigger group to combat the DSLR groups next year.

I left at 1:30 pm, before the parade began, due to prior commitment. Now that I have seen it in action, I may change a few things to bring next time and budget more time for a fun shot out.

There were a few rangerfinder guys wandered around and we conversed. I did invite them to come join our monthly meeting up. One guy was funny, he stopped Cal and me in the middle of the street and wanted to take pictures of us.

Cal - I tried to google the official definition of my new title "gear whore" at work. The PC in my company came back with a warning message "You have attempted to reach a site on the Internet to which access has been blocked. Access to web sites of this nature violates the firm's standards regarding appropriate usage of the Internet ... " So, you not only called me a "whore" ... I almost get fired because of that too. THANKS for that!

John,

Sorry for the conflict. I think that anyone who posts on this forum knows what a gear whore is. BTW you have a lot of gear I wouldn't mind owning. Also my stash seems rather modest when compared to yours.

Cal - It's all good. I knew what a "gear whore" was and I did not disagree with it. I have a farm going in my household as well. I failed to put a :) sign after my posting. I was just amazed by how restrictive internet blocking software works in my company. Pretty silly.

John - I will bring the SWC this Sunday. I will even show you my little homemade human eye rangefinder that I use with SWC and Rollei 35S.

It turns out a friend from europe is visiting on sunday so I will miss my monthly overdose of beer and gear... Have fun guys and see you next month!

Everyone have a great time. I won't be able to make it this weekend but will look forward to seeing the shots and the next meetup. I'll be interested to hear what folks make of X100 . . .

Im out of this one too.. It turns out 3 years ago on this weekend, I got married... Good thing I have a reminder on my phone..

The June meet-up was a bust... 4-5 people at most. Very short... a few of us just went to the parade instead. Still cool.
