Jupiter-8 Pics Only

Leica M4-2, Jupiter 8 50mm f2, D850 scan

Interestingly I bought the Jupiter 8 NOS from a Russian seller on ebay for about $40. It was to be my 'beater' lens. But even though I have lots of fancy-pants Leica glass, I really like this tiny, superlight, unassuming lens. I just wish it had indexing for the aperture stops, as the aperture ring rotates too easily.

I agree - it's a great lens, and I've made many pleasing images with it. The step-less aperture ring is both a blessing, and a nuisance. On the positive side, fine adjustments to exposure can be set more accurately, but the downside - as you say - is that it is too easily nudged out of adjustment.

Overall, however, a delightful lens..... and at a very reasonable price. :)

Another Jupiter 8 fan here. I tend to reach for the J12 more often so I need to give the J8 a little attention from time to time!

I just got one on my new to me Zorki 4K. Going out to shoot some Tri X tomorrow.
