Just bought a Contax T3

Walked into camera shop to look at the second-hand section, as I usually do, and spotted this beauty. Resistance is futile.

27 shots into the first roll and have found that the shutter button needs getting used to - not much between half- and full-press. And in normal street conditions I can barely hear the shutter and film-wind which means the only way I can tell if a picture was taken is to look at the shot counter. Can't wait to see the shots!

I have a T2, and I love the results from it. It is a great back-up camera in travels. I place the Contax T2 in one pocket while I have a full sized RF strapped around my neck. The images will be contrasty and very sharp. The color images will be very colorful.

A Fuji Natura 24/1.9 would be a good complement to the T3.

Gianni Berengo Gardin [the italian HCB IMHO] uses 2 Leica bodies with 24 and 35 as his combo.Good idea!
Haven't used the GR1 in about three years, since getting a GRD ,has all the filter kit and a little half case, should sell but as you know I rarely sell anything.
Who else do you know still has 3 Pentax LXs with winders + lenses from 17-300 sitting in a cabinet?😉

This camera is so attractive in my opinion, but the price. The price!

Years ago I looked into getting one when they first came out. I already had the T2. But in the end I decided that I preferred the T2's handling - I liked the dial to set shutter speed / auto and the lens collar to set aperture. Just like a "real " camera" ha ha. But seriously this made for better handling in my opinion because you did not have to fiddle with menus and buttons. But there is no doubt that the T3 is a beautiful camera if that aspect does not worry you. The T2 certainly takes wonderful shots (great contrast color and sharpness) and by reputation the T3 is even better in that respect. In fact I think I reliably got better shots from the T2 than I did from my Leica gear although no doubt that had something to do with my (lack of) ability.

With a 35mm f/2.8, you have a film version of the Leica X1.


I have a T2. I don't know anything about the T3. What improvements can be found with the T3 vs. T2? I gather that one of them is that the T2 can no longer be repaired, but the T3 continues to be serviced.

It's lighter and smaller than the T2, and has a different control/interface which many feel can be slower to adjust. I've never used a T2, so can't comment on that. There are reviews on photo.net and Shutterbug which discuss some of these differences.

I actually am in the process of selling my T3 due to the fact that I usually opt for my Digital P&Ss right now. That said, the T3 is a fantastic camera, you'll love it. One of my favorite compact film cameras ever, along with the Leica CM, Ricoh GR21 and Nikon 28ti.
