Just got the C-Biogon 35mm f2.8

Here's a shot wide open, I think this was at either 60 or 125/second.

Also, does anyone know what filter size this takes? I ordered a 43mm UV haze from and it doesn't screw into it, just spins around, yet my 3rd party 43mm lens cap works great. ???

I have mine hard-coded 101011 as a 35/2.5 Summarit. With the M9 there is a faint reddish fringe around the edges, a bit stronger at left. In photo below, the camera was turned left-side-up.

43mm is it. I have 43mm B+W UV and a B+W medium orange, and both of 'em fit fine. And I just ordered a 43-39 stepdown ring here, so I don't have to carry duplicate filters for the Biogon and my 50 Summicron. My guess is that vignetting won't be a problem, but I'll report back if it is.

All of the photos on my blog and Flickr page (other than the G1 set and gear shots) were taken with the Biogon C 35 2.8. It has been my only lens on the M8 (been using it since January) and I just LOVE it. I especially like the out of focus rendering.

So I got that 43-to-39mm step-down ring, as mentioned above (I've added the link as this is the only source I've found on the web). It's nicely made and I doubt that I'll often use the Biogon-C without it. It blacks out the inside of the chrome bayonet ring on the front of the lens and adds about 3mm of length, just enough to offer a bit of mechanical protection for the front element. in the picture below I'm using it over a 43mm B+W UV filter.

Highly recommended accessory for this lens, especially if you carry 39mm filters for (say) a 50 Summicron.

Note: with this filter-ring stack, there's just a bit of vignetting.

Has anyone noticed oil on the rear element of the 35mm/f2.8 Biogon? On a few occasions I have noticed smudging on the rear element significant enough to affect the photographs and wondered if oil was coming from inside the lens or from the camera shutter. The worst case of smudging appeared on slides shot with the M6. I have never seen this problem with other lenses.

Using a lens pen to brush and clean only leaves a deposit on the lens. With lens cleaner and a microfiber cloth I was able to clean the lens.

^--- No. But there was just a bit of excess lubricant in the helicoid when I first got mine, which I removed with a cotton swab.

Oddly enough, I do something similar, but opposite. I've been using a 43mm-49mm step up ring on my C-Biogon as a mini-hood that puts a little distance between the front element and the outside world, because I usually don't use clear filters for protection. Also, like you said, it covers up the chrome filter ring that has been rumored to cause flare issues in various ZM and CV lenses. I use a slide-over cap on the step-up ring, so it really doesn't add much extra length. 49mm isn't a big deal to me, because I've got various 49mm filters from my slr days, and they're still relatively small.

Well, I use an old SMC Takimar slide on cap that happens to work great, but I'd imagine there are comparable things on eBay. Metal, screw-in caps are also nice and low profile.
 
I'm toying with the idea of one of these to replace my old Leitz Summaron 35/3.5, which the repairer has said is about as good as it's ever going to get (it flares like a Niger Delta oil refinery).

The one thing that concerns me (apart from the BLUE index ball...what were they thinking?) is that many users have reported a loose focus ring after heavy use. Can this be fixed under the 3 year warranty? has anyone bothered?
 
It's been awhile since I've shot with mine but that's because it"s been awhile since I've used a camera that has an m-mount. 🙂
Personally, I like it on the CL. Makes for a rather compact setup.
