So I got that 43-to-39mm step-down ring, as mentioned above (I've added the link as this is the only source I've found on the web). It's nicely made and I doubt that I'll often use the Biogon-C without it. It blacks out the inside of the chrome bayonet ring on the front of the lens and adds about 3mm of length, just enough to offer a bit of mechanical protection for the front element. in the picture below I'm using it over a 43mm B+W UV filter.
Highly recommended accessory for this lens, especially if you carry 39mm filters for (say) a 50 Summicron.

Well, I use an old SMC Takimar slide on cap that happens to work great, but I'd imagine there are comparable things on eBay. Metal, screw-in caps are also nice and low profile.
