I can get a good deal on some Kodak Gold 200 film(half price)at a local shop and was wondering if this film is any good
Ive never used it

I've used it and it is fine, more real than the vivid films:

I ran a roll of Kodak Gold 100 through my XA a few months ago. I was pretty happy with the results, but I don't really have high expectations with cheap supermarket film. Might as well purchase a few rolls if you can it for a cheap price.

I found a roll of exposed Kodak Gold with an SLR that was given to me recently. I have a C41 kit so I processed it myself and was pleasantly surprised by the results.

Kodak Gold 100-6 was truly a "cheap n' cheerful" film. When it's good, it's really good, but like any decent film, good processing is key. I found it pretty easy to scan as well. Might put up a few examples later.

I took a week-long tour of the Southwest this past summer and, of course, ran out of my supply of Provia about half way through. Some dusty boxes of Gold 200 were literally all the film that they had at Grand Canyon National Park, for Pete's sake.

Well, I bought it, and considering that it was developed at CVS (versus Fuji labs for the Provia), I was quite pleased.

With the uncoated Sonnar 5cm/2 on my Contax, the colors come out quite a bit tamer than some of the samples above would suggest.

That former SLR owner knew how to handle his kit, that is one nice shot.

I love Kodak film, I shot Kodak Gold as well as Kodacolor 200 and 400. Bit pastellish colors when shot with my Komuras, very vintage looks. With the Hexanons its more modern, but the pastellish colors sort of remain, I can pick the Kodacolor shots out from my scans.

With the way things are going--as far as just being able to GET consumer color film locally--I would probably jump on the opportunity to stock up on any film (well maybe not Kodak HD 😛) offered locally at a good price--especially any Kodak or Fuji-branded film.
