I bought the last 4 rolls from my local mom and pop camera shop today after hearing the news. I go to Newfoundland in August... Dwayne's will process up until December so I can have one last hurrah with it this summer.
Dwayne's will keep processing through 2010, not this December, so you have some time.

While truly a sad day.....let's be honest. They're killing the K64 line because very few people were using it. Even among the most dedicated users....there were few rolls being sold and processed.

That, and enviromental issues. It is nearly impossible to run a Kodachrome lab and stay within the norm for chemical waste nowadays.Michael, it's fate is pretty much sealed I think. It shares very little in manufacturing & processing processes with E-6 films. Not enough economy of scale to quietly live by.

I can only hope that the outcry (and SALES) make Kodak reverse their decision.
B&H sold out... Freestyle has the 'low stock' warning. Both still have PKR though.
Also, is it just me, or has KR gone up? It was $8.50 in April for my last order, now it's $9.95... did they change the price today?

I was $8.50 and in stock when I looked 2 hours ago; times change - fast.

I've got 10 rolls left! I'm sure by this time next year there will be a lot of film fridges emptying out and selling it

The price was $8.50 at B&H first thing this morning when I ordered.

Maybe Efke in Croatia will buy the rights to Kodachrome, just like they did for Agfa and Adox. That is, if Kodak is willing to sell their proprietary info and the right to manufacture it. I Recall that when Kodak shut down Panatomic-X, they shredded all the tech info on how it is made. If they hadn't done that, maybe Efke would be making Panatomic-X by now. (?)
In the '60's there was a Kodachrome-X (ISO 64). I really liked its color balance. When it was replaced (by Kodachrome II? Or Kodachrome 64?) I didn't like it so much anymore.

I'm always sad to see ANY item from analog photography disappear. I never liked Kodachrome too much myself but appreciated the images made with it.
I do have two cartridges of Kodachrome Super 8 in the fridge that I was planning on shooting this summer anyway.

Better order now if you want some. Since the kiss of death has been put on it, I'm sure people will be stocking up. It will become unavailable alot sooner than you think.

that does suck...
I found a roll of Kodachrome in my freezer, left over from my parents. it expired before I was born...
well, it's free film, so I shot some camping and canoeing pictures with it. I really like how it looks, kodachrome projected is just beautiful...
so I decided to get some for my vacation pics. but I got Konica Centuria 200 instead... cheaper to buy and develop for sure.
I ran a test roll through and projected it... not as nice as Kodachrome for sure...

Kodachrome's time has passed. Perhaps we should just let it RIP.

Yep...
from Wikipedia:
Her extensive work with the dying led to the book On Death and Dying in 1969. In this work she proposed the now famous Five Stages of Grief as a pattern of phases, most or all of which people tend to go through, not always in sequence, after being faced with the reality of their own impending death. The five stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. The five stages have since been adopted by many as applying to the survivors of a loved one's death, as well.

sanmich, just thinking your tag line is interesting in light of Kodachrome's death.

It can rest when its dead, which is next year. In the meantime, no rest for the wicked.
My first exposed roll of K64 is the fridge, shot in April. I've got three more. Time to make them count.

In a way. She got people to take a closer look at themselves.
