Leica 50mm Dual Range Summicron

Obviously I failed. Very nice pictures. Even if they are cluttering up a 50mm DR Summicron thread.

Now why don't I see things the way you do?

Next time put up something from the Toyo and you'll run me off.

Sorry for the clutter. I'll post in my own gallery next time. ;)

I dont' have any 4x5 stuff scanned, and the originals are not exactly "filed", if you get my drift. That's on my new years list. :bang:

My Summicron DR arrived this morning!

My Summicron DR arrived this morning!

Thank you for the kind words of welcome...

My Summicron DR arrived this morning with my M3 back from a thorough CLA - it's like a brand new camera now. The DR is in great condition, and I spent a few happy minutes fiddling with the specs and finding out how everything works. The M3 now has a roll of Tri-X in it and I'll post some pictures taken with the DR after Christmas.

All the best,

Dan

Use it a lot!

Use it a lot!

Cheers!

Tri-X? Oh no. Take it out. The Dual Range Summicron only functions properly with Kodachrome 64 or Fuji Superia Relala 100. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing what our lens will do with proper B&W. I've only shot BW400CN & XP2 Super with it. They look very good.

Leica M5 : Leitz 51.9mm Dual Range Summicron, circa 1961 : Ilford XP2 Super

Thanks for looking. In my never ending quest to improve, all comments and critiques are welcome.

I suppose it helps if you can see the picture.

I printed this photo on plain 11x17 paper on the Xerox printer at work and stuck it on the wall in the break room out in the shop. While pinning the pictures to the wall I overheard the nicest thing.

"Look at this. It's like a portrait, man." That made my day. :)

Because thanks to the miracle of computer power, all of the 'flaws' in the old lenses have been eliminated. Modern lenses allow us to record images of the people we love with an accuracy that borders on the savage.

 ;) :D

Great line. Just ask us women of a "certain age" --- OUCH. :bang:

P.S. Beautiful shots, Ben.

Excellent pics, guys! Looks like it's time for me to go get one for myself :p

Does anyone know if this lens comes in black? Because heaven forbid I stick a chrome lens on my black M6

Buy yourself a M3. A lens of this quality deserves its own camera.

I shot a roll this afternoon while I covered a soccer tourney. Nothing earth shattering, but it looks and feel great on a M3.

Tommorrow I'm developing a roll I shot of a politician friend announcing his City Council bid in an old refurbed train station. Also half the roll was of a John McCain event earlier that morning. Good ol' Delta 3200.

To the best of my rookie knowledge, no. Curiously enough, my black M5s don't wiggle, scream or cry "Foul" when the chrome DR is mounted. Frankly, I think the satin chrome DR ages much better than a black version.

Earl,

Never ever sell the Zuiko 21/2.0.

Unless you offer it to me first.

Or maybe this qualifies as an entry in joe's "one light portraits"?

Wayne: So far you're buying the Toyo, the Zuiko 21/2 and ... wait, the 21/2 won't do you any good on the Toyo. Did I mention the Toyo comes only as a kit? Fujinon 150/5.6, Fujinon 90/8 and Fujinon 400T ... plus accessories.

Edit: Oh, and I like the sparks shot ... very nice!

Though both chrome and black M5s will do at least that much if you try to mount the goggles without removing the stud on the back, IIRC?

Go big. Go all the way BIG!

Correct. Ray Harms explained all of that during our adoption process last year. He wouldn't part with his DR Summicron though. When I got my lens and goggles I had my local repair man remove the offending screw and post in about 30 seconds. They are in a safe place at home should I ever decide to part with the DR 'cron. Right. Sure. No way, Jose!

EARL,

Thank you.

I have it on good authority that the Zuiko 21/2.0 can be adapted to my Canon EOS mount body. Or just buy an Olympus body. Probably cheaper & easier to do that.

As for the Toyo, if I go big, why not get all the goodies, eh? What's a Fujinon 400T? I suppose I could "make do" with Fujinon optics. :) Heck, I can ruin a lot of film with any optics made. :D

On M3 at minimum distance @ f2 with Kodak bw400cn.

Wayne: ROTFLMAO!!! The 400T is a 400mm lens (in shutter, of course!), the T designation meaning it is a true telephoto design. If it were a "long" lens instead of telephoto, it would need more bellows draw than is available on the Toyo 45A.

Here is one of mine from the DR Summicron. It's pretty close to minimum distance, and probably shot around f/2.8-4.
