Leica 50mm Dual Range Summicron

Resolution and MTF and bricks. Oh my!

Resolution and MTF and bricks. Oh my!

Some folks pin newspapers to walls and take pictures of the classifieds. Some folks pour over and flaunt or ridicule MTF charts. Some folks take a bewildering number of photographs of brick walls. I prefer the real world.

M5 | 50mm DR Summicron | 1/50 sec. | 1:2.8 | Minimum normal focus distance | Hand held | Mixed natural and sodium light | Ilford XP2 Super

I think the DR Summicron attached to an M3/M2 is the quintesential Leica combination ...

Peaches and cream ... bourbon and ice ... I think if someone told me I was only allowed one camera and lens.

I don't know, Keith, as nice as the close focusing on the DR must be I still think the "eyes" detract from the aesthetics. So, my vote is for the M3 with the Type 1 Rigid Summicron. In my book, THAT'S peaches and cream... (smile)

Eyes or No Eyes

Eyes or No Eyes

The eyes don't stay on all the time.

Keith, you are right! I used to wonder what I would choose if I could only have one camera and one lens. My mind is now made up: M5 and the 51.9mm DR Summicron.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

The eyes do make the combo look a little geeky I must admit ... I just like that close focusing option. :D

I've only just started using my M5 and I'm very taken with the match needle meter ... and the big shutter speed dial.

'Bigfoot' is one impressive camera with any lens. :D

I must be crazy

Giving cameras names. Grinning. That's Cousin Bubba serving as spare lens holder. Bigfoot had the picture taking duties that night. Stay tuned for Bubba's debut. :D

It's been too long...

It's been too long...

...since I had any new photographs from the DR.

Two from my recent whirlwind trip back to New Orleans. The first visit as a tourist since leaving right before Katrina.

Bourbon House, New Orleans. f = 2.0, Fuji NHG II.

Thanks for looking.

I had been thinking of taking my Rokkor 40 on an upcoming trip yet after seeing these shots (really like that Bourbon House shot Wayne) I'm reconsidering possibly taking my 1st rigid Cron instead. The Rokkor 40 has the advantage of size and is less intrusive for candid portraits, but these classic Cron shots are so sweet...

Terrific pictures here.

Yes and the rigid Summicron only likes HP5. :)

I don't know if it likes only HP5 but I like HP5 more and more with my rigid Summicron. I also like Neopan 400 or 100 (Acros).

Bumping up a cool old thread.

Just two photos I did to fill a roll on Sunday, but they did remind me why I like my DR so much ....
