I was just wondering; it occured to me while seeing some FS posts for some Canon and Voigtlaender lenses, and I thought it may not be such a bad idea just to get a feel out there of the RF crowd what's been the cheapest you've ever paid for a lens?

Me, for example, was for the 50mm Leica Summar. I got it at the 'bay for about $80 (and then the CLA cost me $90, but in the end I have a spic-n-span 1930s classic for much less at what is now a "Very Good" condition lens).

Or another super-great find: my black 35mm Ultron, I got it at the 'bay for a little over $200, only one previous owner; some brassing here and there, but the glass, everything else is immaculate. The listing had various misspellings and was listed in the wrong category -- I was the only bidder.

Other "bargain" stories of some lenses out there known to be a bit pricey?

$250 for a perfect 50mm collapsible screw mount Summicron from a camera store in Idaho. $150 for a perfect Canon 50mm f1.8 LTM lens from Brian S. $30 for a Canon 50mm collapsible f1.9 lens, perfect glass but with paint flakes inside. A free I-61LD lens from Joe. (I passed that along for free later.) $90 for a 90mm f4 Elmar, also from Brian. $75 for a 135mm f4.5 Hektor. $20 for a J-8 lens from Kin.

Too much info? Regret that you asked?

$125 for a fat Tele_Elmarit 90 f2.8 m mount lens. It was in a lot auction and it came with a whole box of crap i didn't want but it did have some leica hoods and caps etc...

35/3.5, 50/3.5, 90/4 Elmars, 50/2 Summar. All less than US$100 each. Cheapest was the 90/4, only US$60- approx.

I think the Jupiter 3 is an amazing deal if you can get one for less than $60 (I did). Its the ultimate affordable normal lens. Fast, and compact... what more can a RFFer want?

In 1987 I bought IIIg from a deceased estate sale for about £200, It had a rigid screw summicron in it. Two years later I swapped it with a leica dealer for a new boxed M6 with new boxed 35F2 summicron.

I still can't decide whether I did the best thing.

Wow Hektor, a new M6 and new 35 f/2 Summicron for 200 pounds? You don't know??

So far all of you guys have shown me that bargains really exist out there. Karma?

That sounds comparable. A very good M3 could be found for about $800, and a cheap, very good DR for about $450, that's $1250 US. That's more than 500 pounds.

Hmmm, I think the lens is OK, but I'm a bit suspicious that the M3 was originaly a double wind and has been converted to single wind . I suspect the conversion might be a bit iffy.

I narrowly decided to try and forget it, but you know how these old cameras give you the siren call.

$95 for a Nikkor 5cm F1.4 in LTM. EX condition with very light cleaning marks. Cleaned up the chrome, and did not require anything else. Most of my gallery shots with the Canon 7 are with this lens.

In S-Mount, the Nikon M sync with 5cm F1.4 lens for $30. Someone up there likes me. I don't know why!

The canon was a great price...actually the 100 i got from Joe and 50 i got from brian were spectacular deals...now they have found new homes and as i have an m6ttl that i perfer to have lenses that mount directly for...the adaptors make me a little paranoid.

who started this damn thread?

got me thinking after seeing some of these deals...i want one too.

I WANT A REALLY GREAT DEAL!

and i must mean it - i used all caps!

so, who has a great lens out there that will sit pretty on my p for what? say 35 bucks???!
