Leica/Bessa/Canon Users - Lowest price you paid for your lens?

{snip} My best buy in a M-mount lens was the Hexanon 50mm/f2. These were $200, new, from a dealer in New York who was clearing out his inventory when the Hexar RF line was discontinued about two years ago.
Unbelievable! What you did with your bundle was pretty good too rover!

My best buy so far has been US$160 for a very good Leitz 50mm DR Summicron. :)

If that was this century, then I wonder if the shop owner had had his/her coffee that morning!

The *most* you've ever paid...?

The *most* you've ever paid...?

It's interesting going through this thread (bad for the GAS, though), but I thought it might also be interesting if people also posted the price they paid for their most expensive find. Ah, but who would 'fess up to that anyway... :p

i'll tell you my 'dumbest' shopping move.
paying 57 bucks for a hood by getting caught in a bidding frenzy on ebay!
the same hood normally goes for around the 30 dollar mark and kevinscamera had one for 45 bucks.

it was a no brain move on my part.

Hmm, the most expensive? All things considered, probably my 50mm Leitz Summarit f/1.5

Got it for $200, but the front element was loose, and I tried to "fix it"...yep...all the blades just fell on the floor; also a bit fogged. So I sent it to DAG. CLA was $90. I then had to buy a cap for it, $30.

Experience? Priceless.

Joe,

What hood was that?

the canon square hood for 35/3.5 & 50/1.9.

i have since bought and sold or traded a couple of them but have never paid that much again. i lost money on that deal.

my dumbest move ever was buying a Nikon S "M" serial number from an eBay ad that had fuzzy, low res photographs. The seller stated that he didn't know if it worked or not, so I bid on it assuming that it needed repairs. It had the "M" serial number, all right, but when I received it,

sorry, user error on the keyboard.

Anyway, the camera looked like it had been submerged in water for about a year. Rust fell out in disturbing quantities when I was finally able to wrench the lens off. Camera and lens was a total loss- not even good for parts because of extensive corrosion. I have since learned to be much more careful in evaluating eBay ads. I look upon the great deals that I have gotten as cosmic reimbursement for the few instances that I was ripped off, or simply made bad choices like this one.

Ahh. I just bought one for $11.50+shipping.

Now all I need to get are the 35/3.5 and 50/1.9 to go with it. :)

I just saw an auction for a IIS+50/1.9+35/3.5+that hood go for almost $800! Crazy.

cheapest Canon lens

cheapest Canon lens

The cheapest Canon lens I bought is also one of my favorites... a mint 35/2 that was in a camera shop, and on display. No price visible, and I toted up my available cash, credit card balances, etc and asked the price. They thought $25 was a good value for me. I agreed, very quickly. That was in the spring of '98, but it was still way underpriced then. I was thrilled. BTW, I was steered to the lens by a pro photographer that I met through an eBay purchase. He wasn't interested enough to even ask the price, but knew I was a Canon RF collector.

The store has since stopped taking in trades, or selling used gear. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.....

oh, man....

oh, man....

And I could have possibly dickered them down to a quick $20.... but imagine what they paid the original owner! And I'm not kidding about mint. The glass is perfect, and the original inspection sticker looks new. Just a perfect purchase.

Sorry, man, but somebody had to get it.....

i think only good thoughts about you...and hope i get the same deal some day :)

but i want a 35/3.2 and a 35/3.5. oh yeah, and a 35/1.5

then i think i will have one of each canon 35 made.

joe

Hmmm...

Canon 35/2 shipped for $189
Canon P for (close your eyes, Joe :)) $150

Nikkor LTM 105/2.5 with caps, leather case, and Nikkor filter for $99
Nikkor LTM 135/3.5 with caps, hood, leather case for $49

All in purrrrfect condition.
Read 'em and weep ;)

Good deal: a Summicron 90/2 (second version) for $300. About a year ago.

Better deal: an Elmarit 135/2.8 for $166 on the "bay"... Granted, there's a name engraved on the lens barrel, but even though I had the goggles realigned for $40, it's still a nice deal. I think I snatched that one in April this year.

$40 for a mint Fed 50 Elmar. Nice little lens, actually a little smarter machining than the Leica vintage original. Plus it's coated. Don't recall about shipping from Hillbilly Russia...probably $20?

Happiest ever deal (modern times) was a 3.5 35 Summaron with VIOOH finder and hood...all near mint (perfect glass)... as sharp as my Nokton but also has maximum Leica character... the only reason I'd want a 2.8 instead (typically around $600 without hood or finder) would be speed. $540 the lot...readily worth $650 in view of condition.

Just got an exc 35 f2 Canon... $390...expensive unless one considers the price of the 2.8 Summaron. It's unlikely to be "better" than my 3.5 Summaron but I sold myself on the speed and the more modern aperture ring.

If someone has a hankering for nostalgic Leica glass I've got an EXCELLENT uncoated 35 3.5 ELMAR and a FUNKY finish, mechanicallyexcellent, optically excellent uncoated 90 f4 ELMAR...$150 together only. Such a deal!

Also an excellent pair of Canon finders 35 and 100...will sell/trade only together..$75 (less than half current KEH price).
