Has anyone used a CL with either a 28mm or 25mm lens and no external VF?
I am looking for a small body to pair with my 0.85x M6 as a travel kit. I would like to mount either a 28mm or 25mm lens on the small body. Unless I am mistaken, the 0.6x finder on the CL should approximate the field of view of a 24 or 25mm lens. I realise that the CLE has framelines for a 28mm lens. So that would be another option. But I prefer not to be entirely dependent upon batteries. Comments? Suggestions?

I was under the impression that the entire viewfinder of the CL approximated a 28mm finder. I seem to recall that there are other rff members who have used it as such. I just recently got a Canon 28/3.5 lens that I plan to use on my CL that way. But, to date, have not endeavored to confirm the CL viewfinder with the 28mm lens view.

You should check that there is no incompatability with the meter arm and some wides- will depend on the lens.

sepiareverb makes a good point. I understand that, for example, the Jupiter 12 (a 35mm lens) is a problem due to the very large rear element protruding far enough into the camera body to contact the CL's meter arm.

Yes, it works Marc. And no problem with the CV 28/3.5 ... Use it with a 28/90
adapter and you can use the 90mm framelines for assistance (rule of 3rds).
But: the CLE is so much better as a 28mm machine
Roland.

I have used my cv 21mm on my CL with no problem, I think the 25mm has the same clearance.

The 25mm works fine on the CL. No problems with the meter arm. The viewfinder approximates to 28mm but I use it to help frame the 25mm lens anyway.

Good to have this info on compatibility down where it can be found. Thanks!

There don't seem to have been many recent sales of CLEs on ebay. Roughly, what is the going price for a decent one?

I got a good user for around US 700, including the CLE Rokkor I remember.
So my guess would be 450 or so.
Roland.

Not to challenge Roland's guesstimate (I mean, I would never challenge Roland - he's bigger than me and knows where I live and work!), but the going price is listed as $525 here: http://members.aol.com/dcolucci/mmount.htm

The CV 25/4 works well on the CL.
And even with the 25's external VF, the CL + CV 25/4 remains a small package. Before I went digital with the R-D1, this combo was my favourite travelling kit. Add a 40/2 (either the Minolta or the 'Cron) and you have a set that can hardly be beat.

And I might be a potential customer one day .. you never know
Dan's list refers to very clean cameras, mine is a fully functional user that came in
a package - in fact the lens is the Rokkor that Raid tested. So if you go EX+ or better,
Dan's price is a better guess.
Best,
Roland.

Wides that work very well on the CL IMHO: CV21/4, CV25/4, Kobalux 28mm f3.5. I'd say the whole viewfinder on a CL is closer to 35mm than to 28mm. With the appropriate finder on the top the CL makes a great dedicated wide angle camera to go with a grown up M outfit with 35mm+ lenses.

I agree with Andy Aitken: I have an Avenon (Kobalux) 28mm f/3.5 for use with my CL and CLE, but the viewfinder of the CL j u s t b a r e ly lets me approximate the 28mm field of view, I have to kind of move the camera around my eye to see the extreme edges of the viewfinder. NOT IDEAL. So the CLE tends to get the 28mm, and the CL tends to get the 40m lens.
