That's a scary statistic IMO.
All it takes is some soulless automaton in a boardroom to look at a stat like that and thinking ... "Maybe we should drop these film cameras and concentrate wholely on our digital future?"
Hopefully the good doctor would never let this happen ... but he is a businessman after all who has to consider the future of his company!
Leica don't have production lines going all the time for every single product, and that is very much how many smaller companies in similar situations work. The Fender Custom Shop, being the bespoke arm of Fender, don't make Telecaster's and Stratocaster's all day long in every possible configuration a customer may want. Because of manpower they make batches, and when one batch is finished they move to another model or specification for a while. For Leica what makes it work is that they will eventually get to the point when initial M9 demand is mostly met, and they can then fall back on making some more film cameras, or lenses...and then a new model will be introduced in a few years time and it all happens again.

Honestly, I dont see all the fuss is about and its normal.
Just because, although film is NOT dead, I do not see people buying "staple" brand new M7's. I figure that they have a decent current stock and stop producing it. Same for MP.
Sure, some a-la-carte order here and there and that is ok, but I dont see at least in my stores, new M7 and new MP shifthing off the shelves.
I see people crying for M9, that I do. So makes sense that they shift all men on deck to the M9 line. Also, remember that the new 35 1.4 ASPH should have some demand to.
For those that say "Leica only see its customers as cash cows"... puhlizeeeeee... its not really new is it ? hello 329028309 different versions of Leica MP ? Leica Hermes ? Leica Titanium ? Leica Anthracite ? etc etc etc... You guys should be used to it by now.
Anyone can make up numbers, but I would be interested actually to know how many new film cameras ( except a-la-carte ) are they shifting these days. Only a few to Asian markts, I suppose.
Me ? I'm buying a M3 soon and it wont be new

Leica: "We are still producing film cameras"
Leica: "We are still producing film cameras"
According to BJP, Leica Camera AG made an official statement, that they are still producing film cameras (M7, MP) on a daily basis. Article here:

So at least an official statement after 2 month of speculations ...

Think Different
Glad to see that this topic has been cleared up, at least for now. Probably deserves a brand-new thread. I imagine most folks have given up on this particular thread and have moved onto something else.
