Leica M strap lugs

Hi everyone

Can someone advise on the best fixing between the strap and the M2 lugs, as normal split rings do seem to be wearing the brass lugs rather quicker than I would have expected. I know that the lugs can be replaced with stainless steel, but I would rather avoid this if I can. I have found that triangular split rings seem to just as problematic. If only Leica had the same system as the wonderful Rollei scissor straps.......................!

Using split rings will scar up the M5 strap lugs. Remove the strap, and remove the split rings. Then feed the strap itself through the M5 strap lugs. I did this with my Domke Gripper strap, and it works just great. But it will work with any other strap, as well.

The original M5 strap was designed to go through the "lugs", as is the strap on the CL. Nobody seemed to like the vertical hang on the M5 and eventually they added a third lug. I sure wish my CL had a third lug. The vetrical hang of the M5 probably killed more potential sales than the slightly larger body size.

To the OP:
Yes my eyes are getting older, but I also have an M2 🙂 . For that I would recommend a set of the leather patches, placed over the M2 strap lug, to protect the camera finish. I have those on my M2. You can take them off another strap (which I did), or buy them on the internet quite easily.

No, the third lug did little to improve sales, but a lot of amateurs (and some pros) were buying CL's for half the money of an M5. Had they figured out a way to put the CL metering in the M4 body they really would have had a winner.

My M2 bodies like to live on the wild side, flaunt their rough hewn good looks to the real world, and would likely refuse to let the shutter fire if forced to wear "neckstrap protectors". They're more the "hippie strap" camera type, and they refuse to wear handsewn Italian "half cases".
