Hi, Anyone here sent camera to Shintaro for repaint.
I have sent my M3 to him 10 years ago and still no reply from him.
Anyone got his contact information can be reaching?

Alex

Shintaro is on facebook, that's the only way I know to reach him. He painted an M3 of mine back in 2000. You might inquire of @jonmanjiro.

Last I heard (maybe 4-5 years ago?), Shintaro mentioned he wasn't accepting camera or lens painting jobs, and I'm pretty sure that's still the case. He also mentioned some guys in Hong Kong sending him stuff for painting without contacting him first to confirm whether he could accept the work or not. Packages just turned up on his doorstep unexpected with cameras and lenses in them and a note basically saying paint this. He seemed pretty annoyed by that. Hope you're not one of those guys alexfan.

What makes you think he even received it?

@CameraQuest, @jonmanjiro Tks for your insightful sharing of views.

Let me tell you more about the situation, I have full record of email communications with him. We had good communication in the 1st year - 2010, when I got the quotation, his physical address, confirmation of delivery, also confirmation of receiving of my Paypal transfer. My last commutations was after the large earthquake in Japan, I cared about his safety, and glad he replied is safe. But year after year, I keep chasing with email, but I have not been receiving any reply from him.

If you know him in person, pls help to pass my message to him. If you are able to help, I will provide you the serial number of my M3.

On a separate note, pis do not assume members in this forum is ignorance and unreasonable as you have described, even so, give a bit of compassion to any potential victim could make the society better place to live.

Usually it is the threads on RFF that are revived after 10 years.
In your case, seems like you woke up after a nightmare and suddenly remembered you are missing a M3 for a decade.
Rip Van Wetzler.

Unless you can get someone in Japan to go knock on his door... good luck man.

mate, it is afternoon in Hong Kong. But your are right, once a while in the past 10 woke me up :angel::angel:

Shintaro Yaghinuma is present on social media. He is not super active but I notice some activity in the past year. Maybe a PM through some of those channels if you haven’t tried already?

Wow, with all due respect
I could not see waiting for a camera repaint
more than 6 months to a year

Lots of questions in my mind...
10 years, makes no sense ,
Cannot wrap my head around this.

Best of luck in resolving your situation

Yeah, just get the camera back. That's what I would do. Several others repaint them now w/o waiting multi-years. Ha, ha, with all repaints, some day the chrome ones will be the rarest.

And if you can't get it back ... oops, expensive life lesson. Hope it wasn't a family heirloom.

10 years is kind of extreme in both ends - I would have bought a ticket to Japan and knocked on his door, but Shintaro was reported to have erratic delays, painting was not his day job after all.
Having lived in Japan for years I know that few Japanese are comfortable speaking and writing English, thus a quick update by mail may not have been as obvious as it sounds.
It could be one of those situations where embarrassment just builds and builds as time goes by.

It took a year for Shintaro to do my Nikon SP, that was about 20 years ago.

This is way too long, you paid in advance as I did. When the camera was sent, it "just showed up", no notice on shipping or tracking number given.

Alex,
I hope you can reach him and find out what happened to your camera. Likely there were some unusual circumstances at play soon after Shintaro received it. If it were my camera, I would be more interested in those circumstances and what exactly happened to the camera, and to Shintaro. Who really knows? But after 10 years without it, if all else were OK, I'd let it go and move on.

Would be nice if you could retrieve your camera after all these years. Even better if it can be rerouted to Kanto. Which is plainly reliable.

Any new updates yet?
I really don't know why you raise the case after such a long time.
My worst experience was with DAG when it took him 8 months to fix my M7.
