Hey all,
Looking to give my M5 a servicing and get a few other cameras on the shelf up to scratch.
Does anybody know of a reputable repair shop in London, UK? I know Aperture is well regarded in general - but I wanted to do my homework before I pull the trigger.

Red Dot Cameras. I've had them service an M3, M2, and MDa; all have performed perfectly since. Just make sure you don blinkers before entering the shop, or else you'll walk out a pauper.

Out of curiosity - how much did they charge you for the service?

+1 for Red Dot, though I have only used them once. It cost about £120, plus or minus £10, to put a newly-acquired IIIB into perfect shape last year.
I have sent many different cameras to Newton Ellis in Liverpool over the years, and would have had no hesitation in sending them my IIIB - it just happens that Red Dot are around the corner from my work, and they are well-known Leica specialists.

I noticed someone called ppp-repairs on Instagram who seems to be doing repairs on all sorts, including Leica and the electronics in some compacts. I have never used him and don't know anyone who has though!

Here's another vote for Newton Ellis and Co.

IIRC, £140 + VAT each for the M3 and M2, £100-ish for the MDa.

Dear Gary,
I’m sorry to hear you have a problem with your camera, but unfortunately, we no longer offer a repair service, so we wouldn’t be able to help you.
Kind regards
Elaine.

The 'old' guys are getting harder to find or make contact with and when contacted can have long lead times.
Flavour of the month would appear to be: https://www.cameraworks-uk.com/
I've never used them but they have been mentioned often here.

I've sold my brass focus tabs for Leica lenses to both CamServe and Camera Centre so I assume they service Leica stuff. They're both in the UK (it's a small country isn't it - how far could it be from London?
).

I got the same response from Red Dot. They pointed me in the direction of Kriton at Aperture. Will let you know how it goes with them.

The Leica-repairmen become extinct. Last week Mr. Scherpenborg from Nijmegen died. He was a great Leica tech. Who will repair my things from now on?
Erik.

I have sent the Starkies around 10 cameras, and I'm not even in the UK. They are tops.

Not London obviously but cameratiks based in Edinburgh are very good. They replaced the shutter curtains in my Leotax F . I’ve had them service a fair number of my cameras including Ercona II, Agfa Isolette II, IKOFLEXiii Olympus RD, Yashica Mat124. A friend used them to replace a smashed LCD screen on an Olympus digital camera. So they seem more than adept at repairing a very wide range of cameras.

Sorry to hear about Mr. Scherpenborg, Erik.
Will van Manen and Cathy Kuiper in Zoetermeer are both excellent. However, they are currently flooded with work and so are the equally outstanding Starkies in the UK.
It's time to arouse young people's interest in this fascinating profession.

Malcolm is still doing repair stuff but is semi-retired-ish, maybe, I think (that said I had a chat with him this morning and he's as enthused as ever).

I've never heard something bad about Malcolm Taylor.
I liked Peter Grisaffi a lot, but I've heard he is out of the business. Is that true?
Erik.

No, I don't think he is but when I last spoke to him he implied that he was semi retired...ish.
