Leica STARTER set

...is now the M7. Wow!
I wonder if all the folks who bought M7's realized they were just buying "starter" cameras. 😉

At US$4300 it does not seem to be very "starter" to me! 😛

If you keep your eyes peeled and are patient you don't have to pay anywhere near that price. I bought a new US Passport M7 from a Leica dealer on eBay last year for $2275 and got a free Leicavit as well; effective cost for the body was $1775. RFF sponsor Popflash is selling new gray market M7s for $2695, and (apparently) new "premium" 😉 MPs for the same price.

I got a start kit from Leica some 10 years ago, with an M6 Classic and Elmar 50mm. I then moved on in the second hand market.

My starter was an MP and a Noctilux. I thought 50mm, yeah that is what everyone recommends and it is f1 so it's fast. Yeah fast is what I need. Sort of the mentality while looking at hot rods. You know, bigger engine, it must be better. Then I thought, all I need is 28 and a 90, then I'll be done. Yeah, right!

I was told that if you purchase an M camera by the end of the year, Leica is issuing 500.00 USD coupons good towards other Leica equipment. So a Leica MP and the 500.00 off a lens pretty much equals the M7 starter kit. I am seriously thinking of doing this.

Yep, it sounds like a really good deal. If you get a lens they throw in 2 free 6 bit codings as well as a coding for the lens you buy right then. Suh-weet!
