Lens Hood Needed?

I shoot B&W only in my RF --A ZI. I use B+W b&w color filters--usually green on the 85/90mm, red on the 21/28mm, etc...

The 90mm Tele-Elmar that I am using comes with this giant hood that nearly doubles the physical length of the lens--it's ugly too!

Since I am using a MC filter on it, is it absolutely necessary to use the hood--other than for protection?

Always use a lens hood.

It is not 'necessary', although a good idea to cut down flare and provide physical protection.

If you don't like the huge hood for the TE, you can get a standard or tele hood from Heavystar on Ebay. It will do the job with a much smaller profile.

Filters do not keep off axis light from hitting the glass. MC filters just let more of it thru

Hello:

IMHO and experience the lenshood for the Tele-Elmarit is essential. It is flare prone at the merest suggestion of being poinrted into direct light.
