Hello,

Forgive me for asking silly questions, but how does this push-on filter business work? Now that I've shot my first roll of 6x9 with my Agfa Record III, I want to try it with a Y2 or G filter, perhaps a lens hood for shooting contre-jour etc. I have a few 46mm accessories; are there adaptors for this? Or will I be making a James Ravilious-style cardboard lens hood? Granted, my 46mm lens hood wouldn't be much use on the wee 105/4.5 Solinar, but the filters would be nice. Does focusing normally require taking off any filters?

Thanks for all help.

It looks like a 37mm push on hood and filters will fit. I have an early Agfa Ventura 69 DeLuxe ("Made in Germany U. S. Zone"!) that takes 37mm slip on accessories. The best choice would be a 37mm slip on Series VI adapter ring and hood. Series VI filters are very common and cheap. Of course, being a Leica snob, I only use Leitz Series VI filters. They give great glow. :D

Ha! Glow is not something I probably want from a filter ;) Yes, maybe I'll have to get into this Series VI filter system. Seems a shame as I already have all of these 46mm bits and bobs, but they would look a little oversized though.

Cheers.

Hi,

first, you can focus with the hood/filters attached, provided you cleaned out the Agfa "lubricant" and the focus helical turns smoothly.

30mm (Isolette) and 37mm (Record) push on type filters and hoods can be had for a few bucks on swap meets or at the usual online auction site, at least here in Old Europe. Using these push on filters and hoods for me holds one advantage: Regardless of the maker of the hoods/filters, you should be able to "stack" the hood on any filter of the same size. At least that is my (limited) experience with the few filters and hoods I own. This is nice because with these old cameras/lenses it is recommended to always shoot with a lens hood on, not only when shooting against the sun.
As mentioned, most post war models of the Isolette take A30 filters and hoods. The original accessory hood from Agfa for the Isolette looks like the one in the link below (price is on the high side).

I don't know if there is a similar plastic hood from Agfa for the Record (A37), I have never searched for it, because I use a generic metal hood (maybe from/for a Voigtlander?) that works just fine for me.

Hope this helps,
John
