Let's see your Leica M

yes, close.

Black dot was installed by previous owner. The M6 has black chrome MP style levers installed by Leica NJ a few months ago.

Tasty ;-)

Mmh … Kristian, that 75 Lux doesn't look soo big actually.
My local dealer has priced his sample down recently substantially (suppose, he couldn't sell at almost 3.000 EUR :p). Very tempting.

3000 EUR isn't what I'd call a cheap price, unless it's like new in box and 6-bit coded. Yes next to the Noct it's not so bad. I'm used to SLR lenses so I really don't mind at all, cause the quality and enjoyment is worth the physical burden

Yes it is, a nice mint one that (I swear) is as good as any other 28mm on the market. Love that lens.

Looks bigger than the 28 Cron ASPH with 35 Lux hood (or the old 35 Lux ASPH for that matter, which should be around the same size) - is that so?

The size of the lens itself is only a tiny bit bigger than the Cron. With both hoods on they'd be about the same size, which says a lot about the Cron, which is the only lens I'd trade this for. I''ve owned the Cron twice before and it's magnificent, and maybe only a tiny better than this at 2.8.

I'd love to see the V3 compared to the V4, as people are always saying how much better the V4 is, but I have my doubts, knowing how good the V3 already is.

Which is the reason of my interest (not from thinking about getting one).
People talk a lot about the two late 2.8 28mm.

I have a 28 Cron ASPH, which I love. It is very slightly soft though - sharp for all purposes, but not as razor/pin/crazy sharp, as the 35 Cron ASPH.

As of the reports of others though, it should be. I was settled, the 28 Cron ASPH was the slightest bit soft @f2 and that's fine with me ;-)
I think, on film, nobody won't see a difference. On my M8.2 I can spot the 28 and 35 Cron from sharpness.

Almost sold this to buy something else. What was I thinking :bang:

William,

I just traded my "Wetzlar" M6 (again) for my old 1945 Leica IIIC K Grey (remember the camera that the Nikkor "Tokyo" used to be on?) ~ should be here in a few days........

Thats surprising. I've owned both but never at the same time to compare. I would have thought they'd be very close.

leicashot, would it be possible to request a photo of that mounted .95 from a more front-side angle? That's just a beautiful setup. I have the CV 50 Nokton F1.1 because I can't afford the .95, but I can still dream...

1) Kristian, is the hood locking, like the 50 Lux ASPH or just sliding, like the old sliding hood lenses?

2) Does the aperture ring move by just looking at it, like with the 50 ASPH or 90 APO or is it the more substantial "click" as with the f1 Noct or pre ASPH 90 Cron?

3) Does the focus feel the same as the f1 Noct or is something changed?

4) Apart from different rendering, do you feel, that the 0.95 gives you an edge in light, compared to the f1 Noct (it is less than 1/3 stop, but it might have a better T stop ???)?

5) Does the higher contrast make it less good for really dark places, as you loose shadows earlier (I experienced this with other high contrast lenses and prefer them slightly less contrasty, but not as "flat" as some classics)?

Thanks ;-)

1. The hood is locking like the 50 Lux ASPH.

2. The aperture is pretty standard. Smooth but a little too easy to bump like most Leica lenses. Maybe more like the 90 you mention but I find there is sample variation, so it's hard to tell for sure. I find the chrome lux ASPH a bit heavier/tighter to turn, but not by much.

3. Focus is easier and smoother. Doesn't feel quite as long, but I'm not sure without side by side comparison. First week was quite tight but it definitely loosened up in the last week and is perfect for the required focus accuracy, combined with the shallow depth of field at 0.95.

4. Not sure how much 'effective' light is transmitted without comparing it. The rendering is completely different to the previous model. If people loved the f/1 model, they might be disappointed in this cause it's signature is very similar to the 50 Lux ASPH, but does still distort the OOF areas at 0.95, but not nearly as much as the f/1 version. At 0.95 it's probably as sharp as the f/1 version at f/1.4 or f/2. The previous version was 'usable' at f/1 and the 0.95 is 'fairly sharp' wide open. it's sharpness is perceived higher again due to the fast focus drop off.

5. I've never had an issue with high contrast lenses as I like my images with such contrast and always find myself bringing in the black more when post processing. I find it comparable to the Lux ASPH in this regard.

Lastly, Steve Huff described this as being the best made Leica lens to date. I disagree, but not in a negative way. I find it's build is just like any other, only heavier, giving a perceived feeling of 'extra quality'. Really it just feels like a Lux ASPH on steroids.

Hope this helps.

Oh my, such a d.a.n.g.e.r.o.u.s. thread, I try and avoid catching up here too often! Lovely shots as always.

dragunoy - cool lighting and texture! Some hot pink to protect the black paint, eh?

Simon - the Domke straps are just perfect (though I like the version w/out the metal lobster claw snaps between wide/thin part). Hope the birthday celebration was wonderful!

braver - that is deadly - luckily I've got LF g.a.s. lately so the Hassy will wait..

dierk - nice family there! The Grape still life you shared is soft and lovely, hope to try some stills soon.. Also enjoyed your portraits in my other favorite thread. Welcome to RFF btw!!

leicashot - will you stop it already?

ok, enough commentary, will grab a family shot to share...

thanks very much, ederek

as I got mail from Luigi today, here is a new picture of my favorite camera with it's new dress :)

I made it smaller this time, click for a bigger picture

shot with Nikon D3 and Nikon 24mm f/3.5 PC-E

Haha, Dierk,
didn’t answer you in the dslr-forum.de as I thought it would be too much OT there. So, fortunately, here it isn’t.
I love your cameras. They look great, especially your baseboard camera „looking“ at the nice M9 :)
I like your case!
