I see that your 35 pre asph Summilux is the same vintage as mine, but mine has a plastic focus tab.Is the metal tab on yours original or did you add it from another source? I am trying to find something like this as half of my plastic tab has broken off!
Thanks for any advice.
This is a fully original lens, made in the mid 60's. It predates the later versions with plastic focus tab and does also focus closer than the later vII lenses (I also have a late 70's vII and they differ slightly in mechanical construction of the focus mount.
This "metal tab version" also has a fully functional infinity lock (I always advice people, who consider butchering these original lenses, to leave them alone, not modifying the infinity lock, but instead sourcing another lens, which comes without it).
Paparona: that lens seems to be a summilux pre asph v1 and originally comes with metal tab(correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure about it). Regarding your broken focusing tab, i think there is a replacement part on ebay. Maybe other rff'er can help you on this.
Yes, there have been sellers of spare focus tabs on eBay (as I understand aftermarket, non original parts).
The best source though would be to contact one of the Leica lens repair people, or Leica directly to source the correct spare part for repair.
To exchange the broken focus tab on such a vII Summilux, a complete strip down of the focus mount is necessary - something, I advise against to do by yourself, if you are not doing such jobs comfortably.
I judge the Leica vII Summilux pre ASPH as one of the harder lenses to work on - the lens itself has a rather straight forward mechanical construction, but it is a difficult lens to adjust, as it is one of the notoriously under built lenses with very thin walled aluminium barrel, that is prone to be screwed out of whack with the wrong tools or two left hands ;-)
A lens as this, that comes fixed from a reputable shop also feels again like new (focussing + aperture especially), as many of them need a re-lube and adjust.
Good luck with the lens, it is a very special one, much loved by the people around RFF.
