Let's see your Leica M

Off topic but is that a strap from the guy on finn? Do you like it? If you can afford it, you should keep the camera as a backup. I regret parting with mine.

Well spotted. Yes, it's one of those straps. It looks nicer than it feels, it's damn stiff and I wouldn't buy it again. I have another leather strap (the one you see on my last M6ttl a few posts above) that's a 100 times more confortable..

You know the M-A has no meter either, right?

Regardless, an MR (or MC) Leica-meter will work equally well on both M2 and M-A.

Yeah, I know. A meterless camera (or two) is fine for me in most situations. And in those situations where I know that I'm bad at guessing exposure (e.g. night shots with some lights here and there, in dark bars etc..) the built-in meter of my earlier M6 cameras wasn't so reliable anyway. I guess MPs have the same meter, so I'll manage without.

CV meters are also tiny and fairly reliable, in my experience. But I doubt I'll need one (an app will likely do, those rare times..).

Here's my Leica M-A, just back from CLA, and an M4-2 I picked up while it was away. The M4-2 is such a beautiful camera, this one looked brand new when I bought, with the original box and everything.

Two beauties there.. I'm waiting for my M-A any time soon, really looking forward to it, even though I know it won't do anything my previous M2s and M6s didn't. (In fact the M6s did something the M-A won't..).

That's a sharp observation Jonmanjiro, about Xasthur's serial number. My MP alc ordered factory fresh in July 2016 has sn 3799331, which makes a difference of 898,548 in 4 years. Leica must be up to their old batch numbering games. They must be allocating batches of sn to their digital cameras.
In fact I now notice my two M9s and M9m from 2010, 2011 have serial numbers that fall between my MP and Xasthur's. Also the M240 I once had in 2014 has a higher sn than Xasthur's. Very random.

I don't think the ALC MP s/n's and standard MP s/n's are comparable, Pete. My standard MP 0.72 purchased new by the previous owner in August 2010 has s/n 3469494 and I remember seeing standard MPs with serial numbers as high as 397xxxx in 2011-2. Since then, I've also seen a few standard MPs with 4xxxxxx s/n's, although never as high as 469xxxx until now. But I've never seen an ALC MP with a 4xxxxxx s/n. That leads me to think that Leica set blocks of top plates aside for the ALC cameras, so the s/n's are a few years out of date compared to standard production despite being unused, whereas the standard MP and M7 s/n's just get allotted in batches along with other regular production cameras.

Yokosuka Mike, so am I but I don't like to wine about it

Dourbali, the chrome cap with leatherette insert is standard I think.
