OK. Here's my faithful companion for the last 10+ years...I also used a pair of M3s for many years, but have now simplified to just one M6 TTL body with a 35mm Summicron ASPH lens.

... likes film again.
You have my congratulations with your new M 5; at last you are the owner of a M Leica with a real 'spotmeter'...
"The unique M5 photocell design provides a highly accurate, tight 8mm diameter selective metering pattern. It is as close to real spot metering as it comes. The metering pattern of the M5 is considered a benefit to those who prefer the control actual spot metering provides over weighted averaging techniques."

Joop,
you are very right about this !

"Flim? You want flim?"
Well, I finally tagged an M2 I could afford on the bay place (I got GAS due to my pals all showing off their gear), sold by Youxin - an old M2 that has been CLA'd but Frankensteined by someone adding a self timer and swapping out the button rewind for a lever.
It ain't gorgeous, but from what I see, it's sure purty. And it's my first Leica. I'll post a pic when it arrives. I have already ordered a tan colored leather strap for it at that same bay place. Just a strap, I think. I don't think I can allow myself to wrap this camera up in any kind of a case. Well, unless someone's offering to GIVE me a Luigi's half case, that is. It would be rude to turn down a gift, whether you want one or not...

word? up!
this is not mine, of course, but it used to be salgado's camera, apparently:
cheap but nice leica m7 camera
the price is typical arsenal-photo style ... *rolls eyes*

That's Sweet JanuaryMan! Great deal on that body (was watching that one). Plus, getting it from Youxin means it's had a CLA and is ready to go. Very nice! Looking forward to those Purdy Pics! enjoy.
Artorius - that Rally color is nice.
cmogi - great shot!

A Leica M2 . . . You've got a good one. I've had mine since 1970. I've been through a boatload of other cameras - but the M-2 has always remained. . . prevailed. I cannot imagine being without one. Enjoy!

It looks just like the first one I had available to me around 1966. I never recovered. . . Congratulations.

Thanks, Paul. Can't wait to try it out. It feels even smoother than my excellent Canon P.

One of my "new" M2s. This is a "before" picture.
I bought them to replace an M5 and an M6 .85 I've sold in order to get uncluttered and .72 viewfinders. I've had some luck on ebay as a newbee. In addition to the M2s, I bought a Leica IIIf and a Nikonos V (and a pretty CL to replace an ugly one), with money left over for CLAs and more.

Damn Frank, that is one butt-ugly M2.
I don't think it will take much to get it up to grade though. Then you will have a Purty 'on.

My precious M7 and Summicron 50/2 with Gordy's strap:
That was my exact introduction to Leica Ms! For six years it was also my only camera and lense... then the GAS took hold...
Enjoy... the M7 and 50 'cron are a great combo!

Art and Richie, the After picture will be ready in about 3 weeks. This M2 is going for a cla and will eventually be wearing an Aki Asahi dark brown lizard embossed leather cover.

The M2-R has rapid loading, like all M's from the M4 on.
