Nice!
Someone took care to remove all white paint out of the engravings!
Most 990XXX black paint M2's lack a selftimer, but yours has it.
The silver 35mm Summicron and Summaron lenses look great on those brassed black paint M2's.
Erik.
Hi Erik, that's interesting, is there some sort of documentation as to how these cameras were outfitted? The 990539 serial puts it in the second batch of M2 black paints from 1960, a total of 250 cameras.
The paint really bubbled on this one, I don't know if someone actually removed the white, or if it just wore off. I like it this way...
I got the 35/2 Summicron along with this camera, from a newspaper photog in the Dallas area. To me it's the perfect lens…the epitome of late 50s/early 60s mechanical perfection, not too big or heavy. And of course wonderful optics.
New purchase Robert? Looks very nice indeed.
It is very nice, it was rough when I first got it a couple of months ago but DAG put some of his magic in it and it's really as good as new in terms of optically and mechanically. Super smooth, and viewfinder is just as clean and clear and bright as a brand new MP.
The one mentioned in Mike Johnston's blog ? It looks great !
Yes it is the same…the auction was linked on his blog…quite to my surprise...
I came across another kit with a black paint M4 (arriving today) so I put the M2 up for sale. Unfortunately the buyer from Japan flaked, I never heard squat from him. But as of last night, its new home is going to be Taiwan…
The camera came with a matching brassed black paint Leicameter MR4, which I just got restored by Quality Light Metric. I'll take a photo and post it along with the camera.
