Fully loaded. Scored M Leicavit in black chrome which was surprisingly hard to track down for a reasonable price.

Aaah Sug, thats nice! I am on the perpetual hunt for a mint black chrome Leicavit for my M7 for some time now. Somehow the black chrome Leicavit units seem rare …

Dirk,

Yeah, it seems the black chrome one is the rarest in the market. I think this generation of Leicavit was mainly targeted for 2003 MP owners although M7 and newly discontinued (at that time) M6 TTL were both compatible with it (I think). Since MP was the main target model, BP and silver chrome ones were either made more or just purchased more so today you can find them in used market for a better price.

I scored a mint minus to excellent one from a UK ebay seller. I guess the exchange rate was on my side, and I snatched it up right after he listed it. Keep an eye out!

Leicavit's do sometimes come in handy :)

My lightweight all day walk about kit : M-A + Leicavit + 50/2.8 , M6 + 28/2.8

( The black chrome Leicavit was bought new - but imported from Europe at a 20% discount over US prices )

Leica MP by Abram Goglanian, on Flickr

In 2004 I had my first experience with a Leica MP. I had never before seen or held one, but at that time I was beginning my education at the Brooks Institute of Photography. I found it to be instantly familiar to me and it felt "right" in my hands. I knew one day I would own one of these fine machines. I kept the brochure knowing it would be mine.

Fast forward to Christmas of last year and my opportunity arose, I found one that was reasonably used but in perfect mechanical condition (aka: Exactly what I wanted so I don't mind using it even more!) and it was within my budget.

I finally got the camera to go along with my brochure.

That's interesting: I'd totally forgotten that I once received a black chrome leicavit free with the purchase of an M7 around 2005 (it was a promotion run by Leica UK back in the day when a brand new M7 or MP was around £1750 and the promotion offered the choice of a Leicavit or Motor-M with any new M7 or MP:)). I remember immediately selling it someone for around £250 (I think) and meeting him at Aperture in London to complete the transaction. I seem to recall that the black chrome Leicavit was only available for a very short period and that probably explains its rarity nowadays. Should have hung on to it because it sounds like it is probably worth more now.:D

The black chrome Leicavit #14450 is still available new - through likely not carried in stock in many shops.
250GBP certainly seems like a bargain; todays prices reflect low production volumes and Leica's charge as much as the market will bear philosophy.

That's interesting, I didn't know that the black chrome version was still in the catalogue. When I sold mine, I think whatever I got was the going rate (new price was less than half current RRP). :D
