Now that took some interesting skill to achieve!

I remember looking at an original trichrome print that Steichen had made with the dye-transfer process. It was from 1909, (IIRC) but the colours looked as true and vibrant as if they were shot yesterday.

Nice M5 BTW, I've always had a soft spot for that clunky RF.
 
I believe Leica started out with black shiny lacquer, then switched to black enamel in the 60's as it was a much more durable finish. Next step was black chrome in the 70's/80's which was durable and cost less than painting. Finally, they went back to lacquer when the trend for a quickly acquired "pro photo-journalist" patina became all the rage, in fact this was advertised as a selling feature in their later black lacquer cameras.
 
My M4-2 was nice but it has absolutely nothing on this M2 I got from Bob on these forums! This is by far the smoothest M body I have ever had in my hands ever. It was actually really shocking.
