Now you‘ve made me curious: What are those scratches? Did you scrab off the name of the former owner or is it just rough skin on your thumb? 😁

Interesting! Can you tell us the story of it?
An imstagram friend showed me a photo of this speed dial and I begged him to sell it to me. He had two… and I purchased them 🤓

I purchased this heavily used with a Lovely patina akin to stainless steel M2 6 years ago. The smoothest Leica I have ever used. I learned a long tima ago not to be afraid of battered M2 cameras, these seems to be the sturdiest of them all. The M2 Leicas seem to simply never break.
The scratches replace what was once an engraved name.
My plan is to have my name engraved over the scratches.

and repainted by Shueido. they call this "flat black" but i don't see anything flat about it. still, a beautiful camera that i had to have. it iwll be interesting to see how it wears because the paint is layered on thicker then i expected.

Shueido?
Good luck! I hope it ages better than my flat black M2 I got from them… I understood they repaint trashy Leicas. Mine had some kind of putty, then some white primer over some areas… I send it to DAG and he told me the camera was was missing a few parts here and there.
You know, must have been the kind of classic situation when you’re left off with “extra” screws and bits on your table after reassembling a project and you’re like “meh, they’ll never know”…
Shueido’s paint came off super easily, esoecially on the front where a whole square patch just scratched off. Luckily, it’s a M2, an undestructible camera, so I’m ok with the fact they tried to pass me a tired and well used camera.
Now about your M7, I’m sure it’s all good and that my experience was a part of a salvaging system regarding old Cameras. The M7 is a recent model which hasn’t been used much when compared with older Ms which were used as photojournalistic tools and hammers.
I could understand anyone wanting to simply turn their silver M7 a la carte to a Black version, instead.
Here’s my shueido in question

Wow, what a name! Who’d want to erase that?

I agree. The most battered ones are the smoothest shooters. The same is true for lenses, as long as the glass is fine.I purchased this heavily used with a Lovely patina akin to stainless steel M2 6 years ago. The smoothest Leica I have ever used. so far this M7 is gorgeous and as smooth as butter. i figured that if the paint is as bad as some have experienced (I've wondered if this was new black paint over paint rather than dechrome since the paint seems thick), the core a la carte M7 is a dream camera for me. The price was ~2/3 to ~1/2 of what i've seen other similiar (and not as cool) a la carte M7s going for on eBay. If I have to I will have it "properly" repainted again and maybe with a more true matte finish.
