A chrome M6 classic with 0.85 viewfinder already is something special. There are not that many M6 classic with the 0.85 vf and according to Stephen Gandy (nearly) all of them are said to be black: http://www.cameraquest.com/m685.htm
If your M6 came out of factory with the 0.85 viewfinder, you have something every collector dreams of (not me, I´m no collector)
Combined with an all metall advance lever your M6 is very special if not unique - enjoy it.
Thomas
Thomas,
Leica produced two versions of the classic M6 cameras with 0.85VF:
- a M3 look-a-like chrome M6, the special edition 40th Anniversary Leica M6J and
- a classic M6, the M6HM which was only produced in black chrome to protect the value of the special edition M6J.
My camera was 'a la carte' made by Leica Solms on special order from a German dealer and has the M6J finder with frames for 35/50/90/135mm. Probably some more of these chrome M6 were produced by Leica, but not officially labeled. Although I have a receipt of the camera from Leica Solms and the camera has a serial number #2.422.200 within the production range of the black chromed M6HM. Indeed something special, but I am not a collector. I bought the camera NEW a few years ago from the German dealer after he had lowered the price substancially. I like the camera very much and the M6J finder is a pleasure to use.

I've owned it for only a couple of weeks, having salivated over M3s for years. Since it arrived in the mail I've had a hard time containing my excitement, and have frequently had to suspend other activities (work etc.) just to go and look at it - to make sure it's all right.
And so the expenditure begins ...

Your M3 with rigid summicron is perhaps the most beautiful M combination I've seen. Your photo of them is stunning. They must be a pleasure to shoot with.
visiondr: I voted for M3 as my favourite M in the other thread. They got it right the first try. So right that they did not manage to come up with another unique M for the next 50 years. I get my finger prints very easily on the later M, without the raised bump along the viewfinder windows, in M3, never. the nearest one is Nikon SP.

the red ring warns people not to place the front element face down, because it sticks out.

Summilux,
I was wondering if that Zeiss finder gets in the way of selecting/changing shutter speeds on your M. I have a 25/28 finder on the way myself.
