Line across scans - Canon 9000f

Hi all,

recently I've been getting a line across my scans from end to end. It doesn't happen all the time, but now it's happening more and more.



You can see the line here:

I looked at the scanning glass and it looks to be without scratches.

The other thing which comes in mind is that there's something wrong with the sensor, but I believe that would mean I'd have to get a new scanner, or always clone out the line... 🙁

What do you think is causing this?

This is usually dust in the calibration area. Try cleaning scanner glass around the area of the cut out slot at the top of the negative holder.

I usually end up with a magenta line across the scan line this when I have dust there. Scared the heck out of me the first time as it happened about 2 weeks after buying the scanner. 🙂

It may not be the holder. Some scanners (like my Epson 4490) generate the occasional vertical "scanning artifact." This will be a vertical magenta line the scanner suddenly inserts onto the scan. No rhyme nor reason to it too. I can remove it in Photoshop with judicious use of the healing brush, but it is a hassle.

Thank you all for your advices, but it was user error this time. <<blushing smiley>>

Although I couldn't see the line on the negative, I tried scanning another negative on that same position and in the second row, and there were no lines. So the negative got streaked during development.

Since I had this on and off lines on negs problem the other day too I thought it was at it again.
