I have seen some pictures showing a radio/CD recorder in the darkroom. Do not you think that listening to music/news distracts you from actual work? I know that a process might last for hours, but it requires much attention.

Radio/CD, meh... I'm listening LPs and my phono is the lamp one!
You know, lamp in enlarger, lamps in phono. Warm and analog. 🙂
I could change, get next LP just under safelight.
Roger's book about printing has layout for darkroom. Music devices are included.

I have a 1930's repro radio on while working in the darkroom. I especially need music when I empty out the waste paper basket which can be quite frequently when making prints!

For me it's an old Panasonic cassette tape player, but yes, I regularly listen to music in the darkroom. It's rather like having a friend around for an otherwise solitary experience.
Unlike reading, the concentration and focus required for darkroom work is fully compatible with music playing. There are times when I'm deep in thought on an image and realize that the music stopped a while back. The silence is good too.

My darkroom is my bathroom with good echo. I will chant or psalmodize while working.

Music in the darkroom is essential. Yes, you need to be attentive to the process, but only intermittently. It's not too hard to find something that you can tune out while, say, dodging and burning, but is engaging enough to get you through a dull couple of minutes shuffling things around in the fixer. Jazz, techno, early rock'n'roll / r&b, and old-school metal do it for me.

Wi-Fi or Bluetooth speakers. Modern ones are very small, but good in sound.
And they are waterproofed as well. 🙂

Always. I have a small Tivoli radio that picks up real well in the darkroom, which is in the basement. As befits black and white analog work, it's always tuned to either a classical music station or NPR news.

Some people (I am one) actually focus better with music playing (or other background distraction). I think it is a symptom of ADD. ;-)
In my case, my darkroom is across from an apartment I let, so I use bluetooth headphones.

I would think the discriminating RFF member would prefer reel to reel or perhaps a gramophone.

I listen to FM radio and CDs in the darkroom. Working in the darkroom does not seem right without music! No, it does not distract. My attention stays focused on developing and printing.

Spent a lot of my college years in the darkroom and luckily I was in college when some of the best music every written was done (1970-1975). I could not have done it without the Rolling Stones, Beattles etc.
